Bill Cosby's Humor made a Generation Laugh

Bill Cosby as we affectionately know him, was born William H. Cosby Jr. on July 12th,1937. He is one of the greatest comedians ever, and his show The Cosby Show was the highest ranked sitcom on TV airing from 1984 to 1992. And no wonder....Bill Cosby made us laugh! His wholesome comedy hit home to Millions.

Laughter and his jokes about raising kids, grandparents, and different situations we all are faced with is what make his humor stand out, in my opinion. If you haven't seen the Cosby Show, or seen any of Bill Cosby's Specials, then you've come to the right place.

Wonderfulness

I spent many an hour listening to this.

This is the album I listened to as a child and includes many other funny sketches. The beauty of Bill Cosbys humor is that even a little child can understand it.

Wonderfulness, originally released in 1966, is Cosby at his best, with such memorable bits as "Tonsils," "The Playground," and the classic childhood reminiscence "Chicken Heart."

I Spy - Season 1 (1965)

Bill Cosby Makes History

In this series he was the first African-American to be cast as a co-star in a dramatic TV show. This was still a touchy thing, in fact four stations in three Southern states wouldn't run the show. The series ran for three seasons, ending in 1968 and won a Golden Glove in 1967.

Watch History in the making

Robert Culp and Bill Cosby star as international espionage agents Kelly Robinson and Alexander Scott on highly dangerous missions in this ever-popular, award-winning series. Culp poses as a world-class playboy/tennis player, and Cosby goes undercover as his trainer. Together they travel the world, trading quips and fighting high-level crime with cool bravado and extraordinary savoir-faire. Combining humor with action/intrigue, "I Spy" was the first adventure TV series to be shot in exotic international locales, establishing a new standard for television dramas.

Laughter is the Best Medicine

They say laughter is the best medicine, and I would have to agree. Watching these videos today actually had me laughing out loud...watch the Drug one, and the Grandparents...two of my favorites.

Laughter has always helped us deal with the nuances of life, and Bill Cosby ranks right up there with Bob Hope,Jerry Lewis, Phyllis Diller, and Bette Midler to name a few that I remember while growing up. Regardless of who you like best, I am sure you will agree that Bill Cosby is indeed a "Funny Man."

The Bill Cosby Show

This came before the Huxtables.

After his stint on I Spy and before his roll as Cliff Huxtable he was Chet Kincaid, a gym teacher at an urban high school in Los Angeles.

In this Emmy award winning series Chet Kincaid was an all-around good guy and an inspiration to his friends, family and students. His good heart gets him into tons of predicaments, such as losing a one-on-one basketball game to a student he considered too short to make the team, his accidental involvement in a domestic dispute when he answers a pay phone and going on a date in a borrowed garbage truck.

Includes music by Quincy Jones

A Girl Named Punkin

I picked this sample of the show, because I thought it was interesting that it was dealing with and autistic child. We hear a lot about autism now, but here is an example from over 30 years ago.

Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids

Hey, Hey, Hey its Fat Albert

While the title is probably not politically correct these days, I remember watching this as an adolescent. Cosby did a lot of work for children in the 70's. In addition to this show he also work on The Electric Company

Cosby had tremendous respect for young children, and his segments in the series demonstrate his gift for being able to talk to children without talking down to them. Like a good teacher, Cosby addressed his young viewers not as immature troublemakers, but as the young adults they would one day become.

The Cosby Show regularly appears in lists of the greatest shows of all time, yet it remains as vibrant today as one of Cliff Huxtable s sweaters! From their brownstone in Brooklyn, Cliff and Clair Huxtable watched over their family with style, wit and wisdom, not to mention a whole lot of laughs. The values they represented clearly struck a nerve with the public as the show was an instant success never out of the top 20 in ratings, and one of only two shows to hold TV s #1 spot for five years in a row. The new collection brings together every original network episode for its legendary eight-year run.
