How do you feel about billionaires?

From the lens Billionaires.

How we feel about a group of people can tell us whether or not we have poverty consciousness or wealth consciousness...

I am very interested in the ways billionaires (& millionaires they are not too boring either) spend their money. What they buy, where they live, where they vacation.
Being a butler I happen to be the one arranging these purchases for them most of the time. But I daresay quite an interesting lens!
    Here is mine:

Gosh, never gave it much thought. But off the top of my head I can think of several billionaires who have done a lot of philanthropic work and deserve accolades for their efforts.

I love Billionaires and aspire to be one. Think of all the good you could do.

I wish I had money. But I will always be happy for people who deserve it.( of course I envy them) A lot of them don't . But I am happy for any deserving person. I think to many people get upset at people for having anything they don't..That's sad. I don't have much at all Money wise. But if I hear someone hits the lotto I get happy for them...Great topic well written
  • DallasNicole Mar 10, 2011 @ 8:02 pm | delete
I think its great! I am happy for them as I would want others to be for me

If they earned there money the old fashion way by hard work more power to them, but some of the purchases are abit crazy why buy a 15,000 pen instead by a .99 Bic and donate the rest to charity just my thoughts, Great lens Jewels

Nice work! I never have begrudged billionaires for their successes. I think a lot of lensmasters should take heed to the advice you passed along about jobs not making anyone rich. Lensmaking is a job, and we should really treat it more like an investment AND a way to solve a problem. The most successful lenses seem to be ones that solve problems, so try it out!

great lens! I recommend Harv Ecker for those seeking to learn how to change your mind about money.

Thanks for the opportunity to Think Big, although living in that mansion/castle doesn't please me, at all--I feel overwhelmed in the house I live in now, and it is tiny!!

    High fived and faved!!

Great lens - you've been blessed by a squidoo angel :)

Another excellent lens. These billionaires are money and success magnets, and we can be too if we choose our thoughts and feelings carefully. Thanks for sharing :)

OK. Patricia... this is one of the better lenses that I've seen about setting your sights higher. One of my favorite issues is the Forbes 100 Richest People list. It is fascinating and the truth of the matter is this... most of those folks were self-made billionaires.

The self made billionaires is obviously a bit special. Ill first become a millionaire before i start thinking about being a billionaire. But yeah, sounds nice.
  • mulberry Jan 11, 2009 @ 2:37 pm | delete
Yeah, I dedcided a long time ago more than about 10 million would totally overwhelm me. BUT, if I had a billion I guess I could have a ton of fun giving it away!
  • Rewards4life Jan 11, 2009 @ 9:59 am | delete
I do prefer to live comfortably but I would like to know what it feels like. I think as long as you are happy with everything else it would be nice but if you don't it seems quite lonely. I think you need to have experience making ends meet to really appreciate wealth. I don't like the ones who are born with a silver spoon in their mouths people need to earn they way in life. Great work 5*

I am still locating a lost wealthy grand-uncle to leave his wealth to me. I want to inherit my wealth - the old fashioned way. :) A very interesting lens. *****

A billion sounds nice, but it can also bring its problems. I'd prefer to have enough money to live comfortably without worrying about it. 5* lens :)

I enjoyed reading through your lens - you have done a lot of research! I wouldn't want to be a billionaire. The responsibility of all that money must be huge. I would not like my children to grow up with that kind of extreme wealth either.
  • poutine Dec 12, 2008 @ 10:07 am | delete
I never knew that Julia Louis-Dreyfus came from such a rich background.

But knowing this is certainly not going to change my life.
I wouldn't want to be a billionaire. A simple millionaire, I could take!
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Dec 11, 2008 @ 2:28 pm | delete
Interesting lens and a lot of work here. I had no idea that Julia Louie Dryfuss was that rich! Goes to show that you don't have to be like Paris Hilton, just because you are rich. As for Paris, I agree with Malia Obama, I can do without her!

    ***** lens!

Very interesting lens! and fun to see how these folks live!

    Fun lens.

Great lens. I don't imagine I will become a billionaire (unless the dollar/euro/pound drop a lot more in value... which could happen)

Really enjoyed this lens and I am lensrolling it to my E-BAY FOR THE ELITE lens.

I loved my Old English Sheepdog like a child, but because I didn't have the money to pay the greedy vets, she died, and I still mourn for her. So, yes I NEED, not just like money. Maybe it can't bring happiness in some ways, but I sure would have been happier being able to save my precious Tobie.
  • hesika Aug 14, 2008 @ 3:10 pm | delete
I think, billionaires are at first very normal people as every one else. And like every one they are different individuals. I can not say: Because you are a billionaire, you have to be a philanthrope. Or: If I were a billionaire I were a philonthrope. That is not a question of the money, but a question of the character.

By the way: I love the billionaires. Most of them had a dream, which they realized. And now they have the billions. That's great and they show me the way.
  • Jewelsofawe Jul 26, 2008 @ 11:09 am | delete
    Susan,
That is cool that you see first hand the philonthropic nature of the Waltons.
I too would help people as much as I could if I was a billionaire as well as communities.
  • Susan52 Jul 26, 2008 @ 10:32 am | delete
I live in Arkansas, so I see first-hand what the Walton family's wealth has done for us in our state. Certainly many that we know of on the billionaires list are also very philanthropic. I love billionaires!

Too many people think money can buy happiness. Maybe it can, but I wouldn't want to trade places with them. I prefer a simpler life. THAT is beyond their reach.
    Great lens.

I love self made men and if they happen to make billions, good luck to them, but I'm not wild about inherited money.

Great Lens !5 stars for you
I wish I could inspire a Billionaire who has philanthropy and humanitarian goals.
There are so very man important issues to change the world around, rather than live in 147 million dollar mansions ! Animal cruelty is top of my list.

It is nice to have choices. I would probably remain like Warren Buffett and live in a comfortable house.
  • Jewelsofawe May 22, 2008 @ 12:44 pm | delete
I personally have no problem with people being billionaires. I think it must be a nice life and hope they have happy lives. I also think it must be cool living in a large mansion like Bill Gates and others.
