Rescue Heroes Billy Blazes

The cartoon series tries to teach safety techniques and how to deal with issues such as bullying. Some episodes address safety skills beyond the capability of young children, such as putting out a grease fire, or unplugging electric appliances during a lightning storm. At the end of most episodes there would be safety tips, which would usually always conclude with the slogan Think like a Rescue Hero, think safety first.

This is a review about Fisher-Price Hero World Rescue Heroes Fire Truck With Billy Blazes

I just bought this for my 2 1/2 year old son and it was an immediate hit! (our house has been "on fire" for days now!) It's perfect as we move into more "big boy toys" and away from Little People and the like.

Functionality:
Fireman Billy Blazes is just the right size and for my son's hands as he learns how to put items into action figure's hands, make him sit, stand or climb the ladder as he takes him into all kinds of emergencies around our house. The ladder is easy for him to put together, extend and fold during play. (the ladder was a BIG selling point to him... it's not just a fire engine, it's a ladder truck!) The sounds the toy makes are real sounds of real trucks, BUT the volume is just right (i.e. low) so that it is a fun feature for him without having to hear sirens blaring all over the house. My wife and I decided to hold back on the shooting water blasts for now, but he has no idea and doesn't care. He knows it's the "water cannon" and he just turns that knob and makes his own spraying and whooshing sounds as he works with Fireman Billy to put out blazes all over the place.

Education / Imagination:
This has been a toy that has sparked my son's imagination and innovation more than other fireman / rescue toys he owns. It's been a joy to watch his mind working and to hear all the stories and scenarios he comes up with. He's already discovered a "voice" for Billy and uses it consistenly during play. And, he's been very excited to tell me all about the rescues he and Billy have made and wants me to come along with them. How can I say no to that??!! It's made a mental spark with him that I truly value. I even got an unsolicited "Daddy, thank you SO MUCH for my ladder truck!" first thing yesterday as I walked into the door from work. Wow!

Duribility:
So far so good. My son (like many boys) can be hard on his toys. But, this is handling it well so far. The door on the cab of the truck that flips down to put the figure in the driver's seat does tend to pop off with rougher play, but it goes right back on. My only concern is how long that cycle will be able to continue. I'm keeping an eye on that, but it is Fisher-Price which, if the old Adventure People I STILL have are any indication, should hold up for many years to come.

My only wish is that it would have come with more than one firefighter. There are so many seats and functions on the truck, it seems a bit empty to have Firefighter Billy be the only one. But, I guess that's by design, because now yours truly is really thinkging about adding Hal E. Copter into the mix for some bigger and better rescues! At this point, what's $20 more to watch your son smile, really use his imagination and have an absolute blast!

The Rescue Heroes cartoon and movies brought not only wonderful morals, but also tried to teach children how to handle adversity and other social issues that are still popular today.
