Duke Ellington would say that he and Billy Strayhorn would think like they shared a brain

Billy Strayhorn showed up one day at an Ellington performance, demonstrated for Duke how he would play a song or two of Duke's and the rest was history.

They were to spend the next quarter century as collaborators and Duke would come to describe his relationship with Strayhorn as "my right arm, my left arm, all the eyes in the back of my head, my brainwaves in his head and his in mine."

He wrote Duke's theme song and most popular number, "Take The 'A' Train".
