What Exactly Are Binaural Beats?
Definition Of Binaural Beats
Binaural beats are created by playing two sounds of slightly different frequencies into the left ear and the right ear, which the brain will interpret as one sound - a binaural beat. In order for the sound to have an effect on the brain, the frequency difference in the two tones has to be less than 30Hz. Without this distinct difference, the brain will not react to the binaural beat and there will be no change to the brainwaves. The actual noise of a binaural beat is a slight, rhythmic humming sound.

- Yes, but I haven't tried them with superimposed relaxation music. The ones I have are "plain" binaural beats, and as you said, not very pleasant to listen to. I do get the relaxation effect though. I recently just for fun decided to try the iDoser series, and they are intense! I don't know if I like the effect, though. The jury's still out on that.

- I have experimented with them just a bit. I found some CDs at Half Price books which had binaural beats under the track of music or nature sounds.
