How do Binaural Waves Work?
I've written this small article on binaural waves in order to maybe help my readers to understand this fascinating phenomenon.
I've, indeed, found binaural waves to be one of the most amazing things I've seen or read about in quite some time!
Binaural waves are basically what the brain "hears" when presented with two different tones (one in one ear and one in the other through headphones) that are extremely near in pitch.
The brain then uses mental entrainment to make up the difference in frequency.
Then the binaural beats cause brain waves to adjust and "move" to a desired state of consciousness.

Binaural Waves - What makes them work?
Before I explain what makes binaural waves work it's magic on brain, you have to know how brainwaves function on their own.
We have different states of consciencness from deep sleep to "hyper" awake and different brainwaves dominate the different states. Any of these frequencies can be controlled by binaural waves. They break down like this:
Gamma - 26-40+ Hz - "hyper" awake, fearful, high mental activity
Beta - 13-25 Hz - awake and alert, high concentration and focus
Alpha - 8-12 Hz - awake with that tranquil feeling right before sleep
Theta - 5-7 Hz - rapid eye movement sleep, dreaming, or deep meditation
Delta - 1-4 Hz - deep, dreamless sleep, no bodily movement
Of course, these Hz ranges vary a little as there is no generally accepted standard.
OK, so what if you're hyper or angry and something that happened earlier in the day and you need to calm down? Binaural waves can! See, your brain waves are up there in the 26-40+Hz frequency and you desperately need them down in the 8-12Hz to be relaxed.
Well, we could put on our earphones and listen to a tone in the 8-12Hz range and that will cause our brain to entrain toward that range and calm us down, right?
Not quite. Our ears don't register frequencies that low.
What we have to do is play two tones, that we CAN hear, about 10 Hz apart. For example, a tone at 425 Hz in one ear and a tone of 435 Hz in the other ear. Your brain then "hears" a tone of 10 Hz. That result is what's called a binaural beat or binaural wave.

Binaural Waves - What do they do?
Now here's the amazing part. The binaural waves will move the mind to the desired feeling or state of consciousness! It does this through a process called brainwave or mental entrainment. What is brainwave entrainment and what does it have to do with binaural waves?
Take the above example: We've produced the binaural beat of 10 Hz in the brain. The brain waves then gravitate to match the frequency of the binaural beat. In just a short period of time, the brain has moved from it's frequency of 40+ Hz down to 10 Hz and is totally and blissfully relaxed just as if you had meditated for an hour!
You can listen to a different pair of frequency tones to make binaural waves (or beats) that will give you lazer focus. There's another pair that will increase you ability to recall information. Another for creativity. The list goes on...
Note: this can also be accomplished visually, but visual binaural beats have been known to give people headaches (I'm one of them) and have even, on occasion, induced epilepsy in susceptible individuals. So, I recommend binaural sound beats to produce binaural waves. :)
