What are Binoculars with Digital Camera?

Digital camera binoculars are the uber cool combination gift and gadget that combines binoculars with digital cameras. Why should you consider a pair of binoculars with digital camera? Well, these camera binocular combo units are great for people who really enjoy hobbies like bird watching and want to be able to not only zoom into their favorite wildlife but also be able to snap that perfect shot. Higher end digital camera binoculars even come with expandable memory slots.

But they are not just for the bird watching enthusiast. These digital binoculars with cameras are awesome for action sports, concerts, security and investigation applications. Almost anyone who enjoys using a regular pair of binos will enjoy using a set of binoculars with a digital camera attached.

How to Buy a Pair of Binoculars with Digital Camera

Your Consumer Digital Camera Binocular Buying Guide

  • Check to make sure the binoculars fit. The same model of camera binoculars may fit one person but not the next. It all depends on the spacing of the viewpieces so make sure you try it on for size before you buy. Note that most digital camera binoculars do not have adjustable viewpieces.

  • Look for an "instant replay" feature. This feature is probably one of the biggest advantages to owning binocular with digital camera. Having the option of saving and viewing the previous few seconds of footage after hitting the record button is a very cool feature.

  • Expandable memory Is a must have, especially if you intend to take video clips. Not all digital camera binoculars have this ability and wanting expandable memory definitely means you will be looking at the higher end models, but it is something to consider if you really want to be able to share your photos and especially if you plan on taking and recording video with your new pair of digital camera binos.

  • Tripod Adapters are great for look viewing sessions. Camera shake is a problem with any binoculars -- but it is really evident with camera binoculars since the camera tends to record the shakiness of your hands. Using a tripod can help combat this by eliminating camera shake.

  • Check the magnification. In camera binoculars, the camera specifications are usually distinct from the magnification and closest focus of the binoculars

  • Optical zoom is better than digital zoom. Digital zoom degrades image quality.

  • Fully multicoated lenses are better than multicoated lenses, which in turn are better than fully coated lenses.

These binoculars with digital camera are excellent and the video capability is nicely featured. A blinking green light indicates when recording in video mode; video action can be stopped frame by frame; and a memory card allows recording of an entire sporting event. The display zoom feature is useful in single picture mode. I am pleased with my VistaPix binoculars. They are a quality product.

Important Considerations When Buying Digital Camera Binoculars

What all the numbers mean on a pair of binoculars

Two basic elements common to all binoculars both regular optical ones and digital camera binoculars is knowing what the Lens numbers mean. In short all binoculars are measured by two numbers but many people do not know what these mean.

For example 8x42 binos or 10x50 binoculars, knowing what these numbers mean can make sure you choose a set that's right for you.

The First Number Means Magnification
Binoculars make distant objects appear closer. How much closer the object appears depends on its magnification. For example, binoculars with 8X magnification make objects appear eight times closer relative to your position. Binoculars of 10x magnification are obviously stronger then 8x etc.

One important consideration about magnification that you should be aware of is shakiness. It's easy to get carried away and go for the biggest baddest magnification you can get your hands on but, this is important to understand. The bigger the magnification the harder it is to keep your image steady.

Anything bigger then 10x magnification and you really should be using a tripod to steady the picture. This is especially true of binoculars with digital camera since they are very sensitive to any movement.

The Second Number is Your Field of View The size of the area that you can see through a pair of binoculars is called field-of-view. Field-of-view is measured in degrees of field usually from a standard of 1,000 yards. The wider the view the easier it is to keep track of fast moving objects like birds.

The other thing to note about the second number in a pair of binoculars is that the larger the lens the more light is absorbed. This means that a larger lens is more suited to viewing in low light conditions such as dusk and dawn
