How Does Biofeedback Work

Biofeedback is a system used for evaluating the biological signals produced by the body, specifically biological functions (i.e. heart rate, breathing rate, skin temperature, etc.). These functions are monitored by surface electrodes (sensors) and electronically amplified to provide "feedback" to the patient

Biofeedbck on Wikipedia
Biofeedback is a non-medical process that involves measuring a subject's specific and quantifiable bodily functions such as the activity of brain waves, blood pressure, heart rate, skin temperature, sweat gland activity, and muscle tension, conveying the information to the patient in real-time. This raises the patient's awareness and therefore the possibility of conscious control of those functions.
By providing the user access to physiological information about which he or she may be unaware, biofeedback may allow users to gain control of physical processes previously considered an automatic response of the autonomous nervous system. Interest in biofeedback has waxed and waned since its inception in the 1960s; it is, however, undergoing something of a renaissance during the early 21st century, which some experts attribute to the general rise in interest about all alternative medicine modalities. Small biofeedback machines are becoming available for use in the home.
The "Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback", or "AAPB" is a non-profit scientific and professional society for biofeedback practitioners. Originally called "The Biofeedback Research Society", its name was first changed to the "Biofeedback Society of America," and then it was once again changed to its latest name.

Breakthrough Neurofeedback Technology

iCAP Release Meter -the World's First Neurofeedback Personal Development System!
The iCAP Release Meter System is a highly advanced, yet easy-to-use personal technology for eliminating fear, worry, panic and anxiety. It comes with the Release Technique course (Abundance Course) built into it in a simple-to-use, click-and-go format. Thanks to the innovative "genius" of the inventors over at iCAP Technologies, we now CAN verify that our subconscious mind is clear of reactive thoughts, beliefs and hang-ups that would otherwise keep us from reaching our goals! Now, there is a way to not only ELIMINATE subconscious resistance, but also to VERIFY that it has been eliminated!
The iCAP Release Meter was developed by a team of researchers trained at M.I.T. and Stanford Universities. It is a highly advanced, patented technology that reads 3 specific and precise brainwave frequencies (out of thousands) from the right prefrontal cortex of your brain and measures these frequencies through a complex algorithm that determines precisely how "released" you are.
The iCap Neurofeedback meter is lightweight and portable so you're free to move about! As you wear the headband with its "snap-in" gold-plated electrode, your brainwaves are transmitted wirelessly from a tiny "transmitter module" in the headband to a "USB base station" plugged into your laptop or desktop computer. The iCap is the FIRST neurofeedback device that is truly practical for HOME USE and it is WIRELESS! So you can measure your brainwaves anywhere! You can take it with you anywhere - even on an airplane!
iCap measures your brainwave activity and it is processed and recorded instantly by the software (Windows and Mac Versions included), revealing precisely how reactive or calm you are when you think about a particular issue or goal. You break through your most difficult blocks effortlessly smf let go of EVERYTHING in the way to achieving the necessary state of mind for reaching your goals! Find out more by visiting this link! Biofeedback is a treatment technique in which people are trained to improve their health by using signals from their own bodies. Physical therapists use biofeedback to help stroke victims regain movement in paralyzed muscles. Psychologists use it to help tense and anxious clients learn to relax. Specialists in many different fields use biofeedback to help their patients cope with pain.
Chances are you have used biofeedback yourself. You've used it if you have ever taken your temperature or stepped on a scale. The thermometer tells you whether you're running a fever, the scale whether you've gained weight. Both devices "feed back" information about your body's condition. Armed with this information, you can take steps you've learned to improve the condition. When you're running a fever, you go to bed and drink plenty of fluids. When you've gained weight, you resolve to eat less and sometimes you do.
Clinicians reply on complicated biofeedback machines in somewhat the same way that you rely on your scale or thermometer. Their machines can detect a person's internal bodily functions with far greater sensitivity and precision than a person can alone. This information may be valuable. Both patients and therapists use it to gauge and direct the progress of treatment.
For patients, the biofeedback machine acts as a kind of sixth sense which allows them to "see" or "hear" activity inside their bodies. One commonly used type of machine, for example, picks up electrical signals in the muscles. It translates these signals into a form that patients can detect: It triggers a flashing light bulb, perhaps, or activates a beeper every time muscles grow more tense. If patients want to relax tense muscles, they try to slow down the flashing or beeping.
Like a pitcher learning to throw a ball across a home plate, the biofeedback trainee, in an attempt to improve a skill, monitors the performance. When a pitch is off the mark, the ballplayer adjusts the delivery so that he performs better the next time he tries. When the light flashes or the beeper beeps too often, the biofeedback trainee makes internal adjustments which alter the signals. The biofeedback therapist acts as a coach, standing at the sidelines setting goals and limits on what to expect and giving hints on how to improve performance.

Answer 2 to the Question:
The use of specific biofeedback began in the 1960s with the introduction of the EEG (electroencephalogram) to teach relaxation. However, the principles of biofeedback date back more than half a century. Beginning as an interesting phenomenon, it developed into a well-established treatment for a variety of medical problems.
Essentially, biofeedback is a technique that provides you with the knowledge, awareness, and expertise necessary to scan your body for harmful muscle tension. Once you detect that tension, biofeedback helps you learn to release it and prevent the tension from accumulating and causing harm.
In order to help you become aware of the body's ways of signaling tension, biofeedback therapy uses sensitive monitoring equipment. This equipment provides an immediate, visual feedback loop so that you can become aware of ongoing activities in the body of which you are normally unaware, such as muscle tension, skin temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate.
In this way, you can obtain immediate feedback as to the state of tension or relaxation in your body and can see the immediate results of applying various relaxation techniques. For example, if an electrode is connected to your forehead and you raise your eyebrows or clench your teeth.
