News headlines promise "International Crisis within 6 months". Upheaval, economic instability, food and fuel shortages are the forefront of our minds.
Are we experiencing a crisis or are we witnessing the laborings of a great metamorphosis?
A Great Upheaval: The Earth's Healing
According to Bruce Lipton,Ph.D. cell biologist and author of "Biology of Belief", we may be experiencing what he has coined "spontaneous evolution".
A healing crisis is a term used often in alternative healing fields that describes a reaction where the body (in this case, the Earth) has reached a toxic overload and will attempt to cleanse it's self of toxins. Often this will result in numerous and multifaceted symptoms including trembling, sweating, heaving and other detoxification symptoms.
Generally, the more severe the toxicity, the more dramatic the healing crisis until the body is finally restored to a healing balance.
We Are Connected: Ancient and New Perspectives
Perhaps the mass media would urge us to adopt an extreme view; either fearfully anticipating doom or ambivalence to the changes we are sensing. It's my hope that we have reached a point where we can see this time of urgent change as a time of intentional and conscious evolution.
Bruce Lipton in his book, "Biology of Belief" suggests our prevailing thoughts whether of fear or healing, may affect more of our material world than what we realize.
In his book,"Biology of Belief", Lipton introduces scientific findings that thought highly effects matters and that thought or consciousness, both individual and global, may be more dynamic in creating the outcome in any environment.
Ancient Philosophies
In Huna philosophy, a form of native hawaiian spirituality, the word"ike" is one of seven central concepts of the Huna philosophy. Ike can best be desribed as meaning "the world is what you think it is".
The meaning of ike encourages a deep relationship between our internal processes of thought, belief and spirituality and the perception, even the workings of the so called "external" physical world.
From an indigenous perspective there is no separation between spirit and matter, internal and external. And no distinction between my body, your body and the Earth. They are all related. In the Native American Lakota language, they say "Mitakuye Oyasin" - "All My Relations", affirming our relationship to all things. Material, immaterial, dense or spiritual, human being and rock. All are seen as having a relationship to one another.
"As above, so below. As within, so with out." another Huna tenant that teaches about the relationship between inner and outer worlds.

Quantum Physics: A New Perspective
"Quantum physics is the newer science of how the universe "works," and it is based upon the whole Universe being a creation made out of energy. In contrast, the outdated version of how the Universe worked, Newtonian physics, emphasized the role of matter as separate from energy.
In the old Newtonian physics version of life, cells are made out of pieces of matter (molecules) and could only be influenced by other pieces of matter (molecules such as hormones or drugs).

The newer insights on molecules offered by quantum physics reveals that molecules are units of vibrating energy that can be influenced by both matter and invisible energy waves (harmonic resonance).
Constructive interference (i.e., good vibes) and destructive interference (i.e., bad vibes) can control the movements of protein molecules."
Adopting New Perspectives
How can these two seemingly unrelated philosophies, quantum physics and indigenous spirituality, help us through the upheaval we're experiencing today?
Primarily by understanding our relationship to our selves and quite literally the world around us.
And understanding the strength and vitality that is in our relationships to one another.
If we see our selves as having little to no power to affect our environment, our health, our nation, our families, etc., we not only are not able to use our innate power in a positive way but also we may aggravate the healing that is needed in our world today and perhaps short change the greatest evolutionary process we will ever see.
To quote Albert Einstein, "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."
The rumblings and shakings of a toxic environment beg for the power of our intentional, conscious participation.

- I love this quote by Albert Einstein, "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." That pretty much says it all!
