Buying a bird Cage - which one is best?
Montana bird cages - a home from home
There are many different choices of bird cages that you can buy to house your parrot or other exotic bird, but the bird cages I recommend are the Montana range which stands out in the marketplace for their unique range and quality designs.
I especially like the comprehensive features they have which include:
Every parrot cage has large doors to ensure easy access for your bird
The bird cages come with stainless steel bowls for easy cleaning.
Most importantly Montana parrot and bird cages are 100% safe for your birds
Each bird cage is finished in a non toxic patented; powder coated lead and zinc free formula (AVILONĀ®), for long lasting protection to keep your bird safe.
These beautiful bird cages all have bird-safe locks
The bird cages have horizontal bars and vertical bars to facilitate climbing
Also swing out feeders which are accessible from outside the bird cage
Other features include perches, castors, removable grill, trays and some models also have a skirt for easy cleaning
There is a bird home in the Montana range to suit every bird enthusiast
The extensive range of Montana bird cages provides an ideal environment for your bird, they are great value, stylish, high quality bird cages but are competitively priced, and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes and will improve the quality of life for your parrots or other exotic birds.

Buying Your First Parrot
7 Tips To Get You Started
Bird cages, toys, exercise, feeding, interaction within the family unit, the ability to live with your other animals and pets, are all questions to think about when you buy your first parrotParrots are very sociable birds and enjoy interaction, therefore it is important you continue to handle your parrot with care and provide it with love and affection. It may take time for your parrot to settle into his/her new home but to support it with this transition; you may wish to consider the following points:
Make sure that when you buy your first parrot that you purchase the correct sized bird cage. Bird cages come in a variety of shapes, sizes and styles, make sure you pick a bird cage that it is 100% safe and does not contain lead or zinc as this can harm your parrot. The correct bird cage can provide living quarters for your parrot for many years to come
Parrots are intelligent birds and therefore will require a lot of stimulation, so add bird toys or a swing within their bird cage to keep them entertained. Playing music can help relax some birds, so try it out and see the reaction of your Parrot
Provide them with regular exercise outside of their cage/aviary; remember to keep all windows and doors closed so your bird does not fly away
Ensure you provide plenty of fresh water for your Parrot to drink, you may also wish to add a bird bath within the cage for them to enjoy
It is important to buy a quality feed for your Parrot to keep them healthy and happy; this may vary depending on your particular species of parrot
Keep your parrot's home clean and ensure it is spacious enough for them to move around and climb. Covering the cage with a cloth at night may help them settle and feel relaxed, ready for a good night's sleep
Animals should not have a problem living in the same house; it can just take time for them to become accustomed to each other. Introduce them in phases, slowly increasing the amount of time they are together. Ensure there is a calm, relaxed atmosphere. It is important each animal has their own living space and it is advisable that the animals should be given separate exercise/play time. Always supervise the animals when they are in the same company and washing your hands between handling different animals to remove the animal's scent, this can reduce agitation/distress
Listen to the singing parrot
Is this the voice of an angel or a parrot?

Feather plucking
Can you stop it happening
There are a number of reasons a Cockatiel may pull out its feathers:
It could be due to boredom, Cockatiel's are very intelligent birds and require stimulation, if there are not provided with this, they could restore to unhealthy behaviour. It is important to provide birds with plenty of exercise outside of their cage and toys for them to use and play with.
Providing a bird bath for them to use can help them keep their feathers hydrated and healthy.
Birds may also pull out their feathers due to lack of human contact, your bird may be feeling neglected or could be suffering from emotional problems such as stress. Remember to provide plenty of affection and petting.
Another cause for your bird pulling out its feathers could be due to illness, they may require testing from a vet for this. It is important a bird is given a healthy, balanced diet. Ensure you buy a quality Cockatiel mix to feed your bird, you may also choose to provide fresh fruit and vegetables as an occasional treat.
If you are in any doubt as to the reason for your bird's behaviour, it is vital to take them to a vet to have them assessed.

Fighting in the cage
Cockatiels at war
There are a number of reasons your Cockatiels could be fighting, below are a few points to consider:
Check whether your Cockatiels living area is spacious enough to accommodate both of them, allowing with space to move and spread their wings.
During breeding season Cockatiels behaviour can alter, if you have a male Cockatiel trying to gain the affections of an uninterested female Cockatiel this may cause fighting.
Assess whether you are giving your Cockatiels even affection, as jealousy can cause fighting amongst Cockatiels.
Ensure you have provided plenty of activities/toys and exercise for your Cockatiels are they are active and intelligent birds and enjoy regular stimulation.
Consider placing your Cockatiels in separate bird cages if the fighting continues amongst them
