Bird Christmas Tree Ornaments

Birds Make Great Collectible Christmas Tree Ornaments

I like birds. No. I love birds. I can spend hours photographing them, I put them in my art and my chickens are right up there with my Scottie as pets. So, I guess no one should be surprised when they see that I am putting more and more bird Christmas tree ornaments on the art studio tree each year.

I really love vintage bird Christmas ornaments, but I don't discriminate against a cute bird decoration just because it is new. So, I have a mix of wonderful vintage owls, peacocks and other beautiful little birds, shiny new red glass birds, reproduction pieces and some handmade little critters. All together, it looks a bit like my tree is going to the birds!

I Love Reproduction Glass Bird Ornaments Almost as Much as the Real Thing

I have a pretty nice collection of vintage bird Christmas tree ornaments. They can be a little stressful to display, though. A little helper can reduce the collection to shattered bits in no time. So, I often put the vintage ornaments near the top of the tree and put reproduction ornaments a little lower. (Of course, the bottom part of the tree is decorated with wooden, plastic and other non-breakable ornaments because I have a lot of little visitors to the studio around Christmas time as kids try to get presents made for all the people on their lists!)

One of my favorite reproduction companies is Old World Christmas. The ornaments are just beautiful and really capture the look of some of the fragile vintage ornaments I am so fond of.

Vintage Bird Ornaments Are a Fun and Affordable Collectible

One nice thing about vintage Christmas ornaments is that anyone can collect them. You don't need to take out a second mortgage on the house to collect a few pretty vintage pieces to enhance your tree. A matched set in the original box might be a bit pricey, but a single ornament someone found in grandma's attic is usually very budget friendly.

Whoo Loves an Owl Themed Christmas Tree?

I didn't set out to have so many owl ornaments. My mom collected them in the 70's and I guess I was attacked by a fit of nostalgia. My favorite are the incredibly fragile antiques someone gave me the other year. So fragile you can't touch anything but the hook or they'll shatter. I guess that's why I bought some reproduction ornaments and some of the cute modern designs I saw recently. I can now decorate an entire mini tree with owls.

Not sure if this is considered but I do collect Dove Christmas tree ornaments. They are just so lovely and peaceful. One tip: For those with pets they may want to consider something to keep the pets away from the tree, there are some non toxic sprays that can sprayed near the base so they won't knock the tree over from trying to jump or climb on it.

I love bird and bird's nest ornaments on Christmas trees. They're some of my favorites. They rank right up there with butterflies:-)
