Birds voices and bird songs - listen to the music of nature
Each year in spring time birds bring us joy with their songs. I have only recently started to learn about bird songs because I want to know who is bringing these wonderful sounds to us. Wouldn`t you like to know some of those singers too? It is not that difficult to learn. There is an abundance of great material on the net for free. Find some great links here and enjoy your next outdoor walk much better.
Since I picked up interest in bird songs I am walking with open ears. Each time I hear an unfamliar bird song I try to remember it, sometimes make notes about the sound in a little booklet and then later I check on the internet resources whether I can identify the bird. It takes some time but it is great fun.

Basic birding - helpful tips and answers for bird friends
I wish I had this resource when I was a kid and my friend and I tried to rescue a young Black Redstart. With the help of my friends mother we finally managed to do it. Those were unforgettable weeks until the young bird raised with grashoppers finally took his way out of the cardboard box into freedom.
Today I know that we boys probably did not make the best choice and that we have been just been very,very lucky.

It is not possible to identify birds in the field directly, but there is a bird song trainer which helps a lot to learn bird songs. If I am not certain what bird sings outdoors I mostly can make a good guess which 2-3 birds it could be. With the help of the birding app I can check in the field and identify the bird better.

The blackbird is a very common bird in Europe is one of the most versatile singers with a very variable repertoire.
Some scientist say that the blackbird song contains music from simple children songs to the full modern music repertoire of the 20th century. Also Blackbirds can imitate sounds they hear often and integrate them into their songs.
Usually we hear the song of the males marking their territory in the morning and evening.
It is said that one can predict rain according to their songs. If the blackbirds sing a lot in the evening it might rain the other day. However I noticed that they like to sing also after the rain.

Today I learned about the Caffinch. I knew that the song was by a very common bird and with a little patience I found the video on youtube.

- Green Woodpecker - Picus Viridis call
