I remember when I was a child of about 8 or so, my grandmother purchased a painted concrete birdbath and placed it in her backyard, between two fruit trees. It was always entertaining to watch the birds bathing, hopping around and tossing water.

Which material is right for you?
Birdbaths come in a variety of material, from simple moulded plastic to elaborate, ornate carved marble.The most common type available are cast concrete. Due to the casting process, these can range in style from very simple to quite fancy, and are usually either left plain or are painted in an array of colors.Whichever material you decide upon, please do ensure that the bath actually fulfills its function, and has a concave basin which can hold at least several inches of water.
