Both parents feed the young on the nest until they fledge at 8-9 weeks of age. Fledglings may continue to return to the nest site each evening to beg for food from their parents. Young birds reach sexual maturity in their fourth year. Banding records indicate that wild birds can live and reproduce successfully past 30 years of age.

Disabled Birding Resource

I urge everyone, disabled or able bodied to visit the DBA website and join up (for free) and help make birding truly accessible to all wherever possible.
A Disabled Birding Resource
The birds must come first of course, but that aside a little effort could make many places more accessible than they are. Furthermore, such improved physical access needs to be combined with greater sensitivity by all birders toward those with special needs.
Disabled Birders Association
The Disabled Birders Association is a relatively young organization seeking to improve access for people with disabilities to reserves, facilities and services for birding. We have members across the world but the majority live in the UK. There is a separate chapter in the USA.

List of European Birds
There are about 700 species of bird in the area, and in general the avifauna is similar to Asia north of the Himalayas, which shares the same ecozone. There are also many groups shared with North America.

Bee-eater

The bee-eaters are a group of near passerine birds in the family Meropidae. Most species are found in Africa but others occur in southern Europe, Australia and New Guinea. They are characterised by richly coloured plumage, slender bodies and usually elongated central tail feathers. All are colorful and have long downturned bills and pointed wings, which give them a swallow-like appearance when seen from afar. There are 26 different species of bee-eaters.

Travel with Kids to Europe

Fun things to do in Germany
Vogelpark Walsrode (Walsrode) - Calling itself the largest bird zoo in the world, you'll find birds and plants from every continent here: storks, penguins, owls, flamingoes, cranes, parrots... With lots of walk-through aviaries, open air exhibits, and a bird cage museum (!) you'd think that would be enough (after all, they suggest scheduling 4 hours to take it in) - but there's also an "Adventure Playground" with separate sections for over and under 10 year olds, including sailing in wooden boats in Congo Land, inflatable trampolines, a ball pool...whew!
