In order to practice falconry in the United States one must be certified by the American Board of Falconry (ABF) by completing a 50-hour safety course and then passing a final test in front of a certified examiner in which you send a falcon out to pick up a small red facsimile vole 200 feet away and the falcon has to come back and land on your glove just so. There are no do-overs.
An advanced falconer is allowed to capture and keep falcons from the wild, including Gyrfalcons and peregrines.
