Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama and is the county seat of Jefferson County. According to the 2007 census, the Birmingham-Hoover Metro Area has a population of 1,108,210. A larger geographical area that makes up what is known as Greater Birmingham contains approximately 1/4 of the state's population.
