Glad to see a offline marketing post with a QR code on the page. In a day of Smart Phones and busy humans it can mean the connection to your website before the card is lost in a wallet, just one bump or scan and you have their attention. Folks a great conversion technique is QR code to Video Greeting, turn your business card into a Video Business Card.

Nice ideas you have here, as I think everyone aspiring to a better business model definately needs some nice business cards to promote themselves.
  • themoneyways Nov 6, 2011 @ 8:41 pm | delete
Yeah, Love this idea. I also have a "unique" job and am always looking for ways to save money. This is a no brainer as most "professional" business cards are not that unique anyway.

Awesome lens, but have you ever considered Inkscape as a good option for creating a business card? It's a vector editor (similar to AI.) I frequently use both Inkscape and GIMP, and only design business cards with GIMP if it's going to use a lot of images instead of shapes.

With permission, I'd like to share a list of awesome gimp tutorials I have compiled in this comment:

Very helpful lens! Most people neglect the driving power of business cards because of belief that it will not help the business per se. 5*
  • kelly Jan 14, 2010 @ 2:05 am | delete
Thank you very much for you ideas. They are very helpful!

Once I tried a business card designer software, it can help me design my business card, but Its trial limitation is somewhat boring: watermark, 15-day-trial, and more. I must pay for that software before use it. I even write an article to introduce my exprience: " Save big money on business card by DIY".

It seems to save money, however, I make business card for myself, it seems spent more on business card. Anyhow, it will really save money for many many persons.

I will try your way to make new business card!

I agree for most businesses that you should have them printed. However I wrote this lens mainly for people running small businesses selling handmade products and are just starting out. The DIY ethic for handmade goods is pretty strong and I've seen some amazing homemade business cards. I have mine printed for me but I did all the design work myself.

Great ideas. I would caution against home made cards for a business though. I figure if a person does not think their business is worth less than a hundred for prof cards why would a customer think their business is worth anything. It tells me they are getting their feet wet, which is perfectly ok but I would rather work with someone that will be around 5yrs from now.

I'm going to be redoing cards soon and will be going with a clean design like these rounded business cards for some company named blit.

Recently, I used Vista, but paid, since I added personalized pens, and used a special template which cost me. But the cost was little, and I am very happy with the results. These will be around for ages! They look really keen. I'm an artist, so the visual impact is essential for me.
Good ideas here. I might try Avery Clean Edge for fun sometime.

Enjoyed this! I make my own cards, and also have ordered from Vista free. I do use Avery Clean edge when I make my own. After reading this, though, I may venture out a little to heavy art papers. That sounds like fun!
