Creating buzz for business

Garnering interest in your needs

Most people prefer not to brag about their own accomplishment. However, should someone else choose to do it, that kind of endorsement is more than welcome. So, here's a thought - if you business needs more customers, why not try to find ways other folks might be willing to help you without requiring that you pay them a fee. One way that often happens by doing good deeds for others...first. This is what is at the core of the pay-it-forward business model - also known as netweaving. However, netweaving will not work as a solo effort. It requires good participation to be effective.

In this lens, various strategies and tools will be showcased to help you better create some "buzz" for your business. But, as with netweaving, all the strategies and tools showcased are designed for group involvement. It's time to think in terms of "better together" - to build your own personal infrastructure - an infrastructure composed of people, places and things.

Think "better together"

Lift up others...first!

Meeting the needs of others first tends to generate good feelings of trust and appreciation. Hence, the very real possibility of an unsolicited endorsement exists. This is not normal networking. It goes the "second mile" in terms of caring. Listen as Bob Littell, the creator of "netweaving" explains.

How to use Twitter

Amplify your effort with help from friends

This video is simply to get you up-and-running on Twitter. However, if you subscribe to the Twitter RSS feed and read the Twitter blog posts you will quickly learn you can use Twitter in a wide range of ways - especially if you take advantage of some of the third-party applications which give added power to Twitter.

Just as some words on websites have more power than others, so too do certain words have more power on Twitter. An analysis of 3,000 titles concluded that the words - increase, socialize, automate and manage appear most in posts that prove popular. Terms including write, talk and trust appear to have a negative weight on the likelihood of a post being retweeted.

Any time spent looking at the titles on mass market magazines at the supermarket show that immediate, base self-interest is what moves readers. Apparently that same formula holds true in the era of new, democratized, decentralized publishing. Even when anyone can write anything, readers still seem to want - and be willing to share - the same kinds of content.

What are the best and worst times to post tweets on Twitter? Believe it or not, this has actually been determined. Between 1pm and 3pm PST (after lunch) or between 5pm and 7pm PST (after work) are the best times and Thursday is the best day. The worst time to post? Between 3 and 5 PM PST on the weekends.

Take the Foursquare plunge

Become a Foursquare Super Mayor

Becoming a a Mayor of a Foursquare venue is not difficult. But, it may take more perseverance than you care to deliver. However, as you might imagine, it is a great deal more difficult to become a Super Mayor. Becoming a Super Mayor means you qualify for 10 mayorships in a single day. Nevertheless, it happens all the time. And, I should know. I am a Foursquare Super Mayor.

For those interested in becoming a Foursquare Mayor - and possibly even receiving the Super Mayor badge - I have created a easy way to proceed. But first, you must join Foursquare. To do that, you must visit Foursquare.com and freely enroll.

While it is true the idea with Foursquare is that you physically visit every venue where you desire to become the Mayor and "check in" using your cell phone and the free Foursquare app, it is also possible to remotely check in to any location worldwide that is a Foursquare venue(provided you know the location) using an online computer. Just follow the instructions at Foursquare Mobile.

Since all you need to qualify for the Super Mayor badge is 10 mayorships in a single day, I have taken the liberty to provide you with some "ready-to-go" links. The links listed represent both well-known and unfamiliar Foursquare venues across the nation. Do not be surprised if some venues are harder to qualify for than others. It all depends upon how much competition there is for the badge. However, once you have a Foursquare account, all you need do is "click the link" to check in.

I recommend you "check in" three times-a-day per venue to speed up the mayorship process. But, don't just become the Mayor of a venue. Take advantage of the opportunity to build a relationship with the venue. Add a "tip" or a "to do" to the actual Foursquare web page as well. And, when you do post a tip or to do, don't hesitate to you the website link option.

Please know I will be changing the links to this module from time-time-to-time. Now, if you prefer to go out and seek your own Foursquare venue, you are more than welcome to do so. However, if you want an easy way to be a Foursquare Mayor or Super Mayor, at venues across the nation, this is it.

Due to concerns for spam, Squidoo limits the number of links to the same domain name for any one Squidoo lens to nine links. Therefore, for more Foursquare links for faster mayorship approval, visit Foursquare mayorships.
