Meet The Black Canary Barbie Doll, A Super Heroine From the 1940s

Barbie is no stranger to controversy but with Mattel's release of the Black Canary Barbie in 2008 as part of the Black Label Collection, people wonder if perhaps Mattel has gone too far.

Maybe Mattel has. Or maybe not. After all, this limited edition doll was designed for and is being marketed to adult collectors and comic book fans.

What do you think? Although this page was not created with the intention of debating this issue, it will give you the chance to voice your opinon, either way, on this issue. It will also provide more information and links related to the doll and, if you are a collector, it will help you find your very own Black Canary Barbie!

Who Is Black Canary Barbie?

Do you know who the Black Canary is?

Prior to reading about the Black Canary Barbie, I have to admit that I did not know WHO the Black Canary was. (Obviously, I am not too knowledgeable about my superheroes!) After doing some research, I now know that Black Canary is a comic book super heroine from the late 1940s with martial-arts skills and a loud, sonic scream that can shatter objects and injure villains.

Black Canary Barbie was designed for an adult collector market and as such, she is definitely an amazing work of art as the wonderful photos on this page by Vincent Anthony Studio show. She sports a black faux-leather bodysuit and jacket, tights and boots with gold details. She features long blond hair with bangs and gloves, once again with gold details like the boots.
