These black diamond studs feature 14 karat white gold construction with with prong settings. There are 2 total karats of princess cut black diamonds.  The stones in the black diamond earrings ar 5.5 millimeters high by 5.5 millimeters in depth.  These black diamond stud earrings are mounted in white gold.  Each setting has a friction backing with butterfly.  These simple earrings are both classy and elegant but also make great casual wear.  They are great accessories to any outfit.

After doing a little research and discovering that black diamonds tend to be smaller than white (they weigh more) I ordered the two carat tw studs. They look great and have a nice sparkle. The price was very resonable, well worth the money. They are a nice size and don't appear too small on the ear as some studs can. These would be great for dressing up or casual.

Black diamonds are properly known as carbonado. They are natural diamonds found in the Central African Republic and in Brazil. Black diamonds are by their nature are dark gray or black in color. Black diamonds are much more porous than normal white or other colored diamonds. This is because they are formed of many small particles of diamond and carbon bound and stuck together.

With black diamonds being found in the same countries as white diamonds, it is a curiosity that they do not occur in the same places. White diamonds are usually found in naturally occurring kimberlite pipes. It is strange that they don't occur in all of the same places.

There are many theories about what causes the formation of black diamonds. Some of them are pressure on carbon in the interior of the earth, meteors from outer space, radiation, and shock from the impact of meteorites from space on the ground.
