No I haven't read any of his books. I am learning of the ways of the Lakota Indians through a senior sponsor program called One Spirit. I am helping a senior there. She tells me stories of her childhood. Very interesting.

No, I didn't, but I know that he was a person of special wisdom. Love your lens.

No, but I know some of his kin and decendants of his friends. He was indeed a great man. In fact, I met his Great-granddaughter at the Great Sioux Nation Store.

Yes, I have read more than one book on Black Elk - he was a very wise man and is seen as a hero by the Lakota today. Very well done.

Great lens, Joan! I read many of these books in the 1970's. What a travesty of violence this country is founded upon!

    Good job!!

It seems like I've heard of Black Elk all my life as he showed up in books, movies and television shows that struck my interest as well as a prominent person of interest in the Native American studies course I too in college. I recall Black Elk being in relationship with Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. I did a report on the Ghost Dance, a native religion that had in it's hope the return of the buffalo and regression of the white man--a movement Black Elk supported, it diminished after the losses incurred at the battle of Wounded Knee. Thanks for stirring up memories.

Very nice lens. I truly love Native American things. I am convinced I was a "human being" of the great Plains, not sure which tribe in a previous life. I read Black Elk Speaks many years ago. It is really a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Black Elk's Relatives still live on Pine Ridge Reservation. I do a lot of work up there and have met several of them. He was a fascinating man.

When it comes to our Native American History, I am ignorant. It is one facet of our history that I never thought about. I'm am adding Black ElkL the Sacred ways of the Lakota to my wish list. Staying ignorant would be ignorant.
    Great lens.
