Blacks are very fast. They have been clocked at over eighty miles an hour. That's how fast they can unwind your line off your reel once you have hooked one. This fish has a streamlined design. If you don't think these fish are tough, use some imagination. Imagine a thousand pound female coming at you at 80 miles an hour with PMS and a bayonet. Lucky for you, they are more inclined to play hard-to-get.

Fishing for these splendid creatures is not an inexpensive undertaking. They are found in the waters near places like Africa, Peru, Mexico and Australia. If you don't live near the warmer parts of the Pacific or Indian oceans, you may have to spend some frequent flyer miles.

Black marlin are not deep sea fish. They prefer to live on the continental shelves or in the shallow waters near islands or reefs. The Great Barrier Reef off of Australia is the only confirmed breeding ground of the blacks.

The record for the largest Black marlin fishing was set in 1953 and still stands. Maybe you will be the one to break that record. All you have to do is bring one in that is bigger than 1560 pounds. You can also try blue marlin fishing.
