Black Mold Removal

Eventually I'm guessing we'll run across a problem with black mold. It's pretty common in this area, especially since we have a basement that leaks every time it rains! So far so good, but I'm really knocking on wood at this point.

The good news is I've learned that black mold removal doesn't have to be costly. As a matter of fact, many of the products that are now available are not only inexpensive; they're also environmentally safe.

Many products I found range from $5 to $100 depending on the amount of product you need. I would venture to say that if you need to clean an entire room full of the nasty stuff, you're going to need to spend a little more.

You also don't want to forget to throw in the cost of rags, plastic sheets, and protective equipment like eyewear, masks and gloves. Depending on how bog the job is these can range anywhere from $10 to $80 in price.

Also, you may want to purchase a dehumidifier to prevent further moisture problems. We were lucky enough that the old owner left one of these in our basement. Generally though dehumidifiers really aren't that expensive unless you want one that can filter the air as well. A reasonable one will be about $30, but for the fancier ones you can expect to pay up to $200 or more.

Unfortunately there may be a situation when black mold removal will need to be left in the hands of a professional. I hope you will never have to have a situation like that, but if you do, remember to do your homework and shop around to keep the cost down. Just remember that in the end, your health will always be much more important than a price tag.
