Black Sabbath Reunion Tour 2011-2012

Rumours had been swirling for some time now about the possibility of a Black Sabbath Reunion 2012 with the original four founding members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward getting together to cut a new album and embark on a tour in the very near future.

The whole situation was confusing because conflicting statements by the possible participants and those close to the situation seemed to contradict each other.

However on November 11 at the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles the band announced that yes indeed the original lineup was reforming to tour in 2012 and cut a new album as well. Now only the European tour dates have been set so far but check back here because we'll have the full tour schedule and ticket information as soon as it is confirmed for North America and other venues worldwide.

The band was joined by Rick Rubin, who is set to produce the band's new album, the first to come from the original line up since 1978's 'Never Say Die!'. "It was the obvious choice," explained Osbourne of Rubin as producer. "I've known Rick for many years."

"It was time," said Osbourne of their reunion. "The timing was right." Tony Iommi added: "It's now or never for us... We're getting on great."

Osbourne went on to reveal that they've written "seven or eight" new songs for the album, which they plan to release in autumn 2012 after their Download show and before heading out on a world tour.

Butler added that the new songs are "back to the old Sabbath style and sound. The stuff that Tony's been playing is absolutely brilliant."

Some great suggestions here so far, I think they will likely include some new songs from the upcoming new album but as always the fans will be wanting to hear the classics.

My son is 14 and just learned how to play The Wizard on guitar and harmonica. I say The Wizard. Great news from the great Sabbath.

On the Sabbath website there is a hint that 11 11 11 will be a big day so here's hoping they announce the tour tomorrow!

This will be an interesting flashback for a lot of people. Very nice collection of links here. I was in a band that opened for them in Bristol Colston Hall in the mid 70s. We were a bit of a comic band ... an interesting pairing for a show.

Very interesting! ... did you get an opportunity to meet the band members before or after the gig?

Maybe you could have a reunion of your own old band and open for them if they do the reunion tour ;)

One can make the case that the Beatles, while the most important band of all time, wasn't the most influential. Decades after Black Sabbath laid down the commandments of heavy metal--lyrically, not for the squeamish; musically, dynamic and resolutely heavy--their impact remains improbably undiminished.

One needed only to hear the first notes of the eponymous track on their eponymous 1970 debut to know that a new régime had arrived. And while one could (and should!) have mocked them, they would not be stopped. Black Box includes the eight albums recorded between 1970 and 1978 by the founding lineup--Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, Ozzy Osbourne, and Geezer Butler--in one suitably weighty package.

Forgoing bonus tracks (aside from an entertaining but brief four-track DVD extra), the box is rounded off with an impressive 80-page booklet. While the foursome was considerably less fearsome by the time they checked out with Never Say Die, more than half of this collection represents heavy metal with a lasting impact. --Steven Stolder
