Struck Cedar

Ahhh, The power and resilience of nature. A Black and White photograph of A Cedar tree with a scar resulting from a lightning strike. The scar cavity has hollowed out the entire length of the trunk yet the tree continues to survive. A very powerfull image.

Black and white brings the best results in fine art photograpy and colour can never replace it. I am glad there is a lens for the same.

About ctwomey

I have always had an appreciation for Black and White photography and a love for nature and animals. I love to explore and discover, and I love the challenge of capturing my way of seeing film so that others may also enjoy it.


Through my photography I hope to share my love of nature and animals evoke an emotion or perhaps stir an old memory.


I have chosen the emotional, timeless quality of Black and White and the surreal dream like images captured in infrared. to make pictures that are simple in composition yet make a strong emotional impact.


As well as photography I also work in other mediums mainly graphite pencil. I find switching between mediums keeps me fresh and each influences the other.


My current photographic work focuses on rural landscapes of central New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. Trees, farms, and animals in particular are a favorite subjects of mine, but any simple composition is always appealing to me no matter what the subject may be.


Through my photography I hope to also inspire others to slow down and appreciate the beauty that is all around us and to help to preserve our natural and wild places.
