Althought quite romanticized, there is just something about pirates in general. We like to see them as something akin to Johnny Depp in "Pirates of the Carribbean," when in fact, they led a highly violent, dirty, tough life.
Nevertheless, our love of pirates remains. And who is the most infamous, most reviled, most feared pirate of them all? None other than Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard.

There are no confirmed accounts of him actually killing anyone. He just scared them senseless and plundered their ships.

He blockaded Charleston harbor. During the process he took several prominent citizens as hostages. His ransom demands? Medicine. Once the demands were met, he returned the hostages naked, but unharmed.
