how can i create my own application that sits on bb and interacts with my site
  • achraf May 26, 2011 @ 5:11 am | delete
there are many ways to do it:
1- simple way is to create a small website with interface (design) fitting a bb screen. this is simple, nothing to install, and easy to update.
2- Create a java application (J2ME); Java 2 Mobile is kind of limited but easy to learn and deploy.
3- Is the best way in terms of functionality but the hardest!! learn the BB framework and do it big!

Contact me if you need any help, I'll be glad to share my experience.

My absolute favorite is blackberry podcasts! My next favorite free app is sportypal; you have to get it from sportypal.com It links into the gps system and keeps tracks of your walks, runs etc. Of course facebook's app is pretty decen now too. I prefer ubertwitter (now ubersoc) over twitter's blackberry app...but ubertwitter got disabled by twitter.
  • RoyalScam Feb 25, 2011 @ 8:35 am | delete
UberTwitter is no longer disabled. Just renamed UberSocial. Works.

I think that the 'Facebook Chat' Application from research in motion works very effectively and is yet another great asset to the social networking capabilities of the Blackberry.

I have a BB Curve 8310. Pretty old 2G phone by smartphone standards and I don't have too many apps. I like the Google Maps and Gmail app the best.

i wish there were more places to get bb apps online.
  • igorGriffiths Nov 11, 2010 @ 6:41 am | delete
I use snaptu as it combines the best of both worlds

You can link to multiple twitter accounts and your facebook account plus there is an RSS newsfeed. This means you can find up to date information for all of your followers and become the leader in your market by providing the latest news and trends.

I love the Facebook app (free) which is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends, update status messages, post pics etc.
Also, another great app for those who love to Instant Message (IM) is BeeJiveIM. BeeJiveIM is compatible with all the major IM's (Yahoo, MSN/Live, Google Talk, AOL, ICQ, Jabber, MySpace and Facebook) and the best part is it is one of the very few (if not the only one) that uses your existing data plan so there's NO per text message charges (as long as you have a data plan). It's not free, but for $15 you get unlimited usage and you can transfer the app license to another phone when or if you need to replace the one you have. Not a bad deal if you research the available IM options, which majority of do NOT use your data plan.

I love the Facebook Blackberry app. I have been using it for almost a year and it has never given me any problems. I especially like how my friend's updated status' are quickly displayed first on the screen. It is a little slow to updated my list of friends, but the picture/inbox/wall accessibility makes up for any slowness. Great app!
  • DavidCrash Dec 19, 2009 @ 8:00 am | delete
SocialScope is amazing, has everything that I'm looking for, facebook and twitter combined in a nice and easy package, geotagging status updates, "tweets near me"... it has everything, except one thing, I complain about how it won't refresh facebook status updates (even Vodafone Update does!), and I'm told "we access facebook in a different way, it's facebook's problem" .... umm.... nope! it's your program that has to come in line with the site you're trying to access... not the other way around... fix that, and SocialScope is the ultimate social app... myspace what?... oh yeah, I remember that site... didn't it die in the dot-com crash? (^_^)

to load applications on the Tour, BB Desktop manager appears to only use .alx or .ali files. This comes down as a .jad file, unrecognized by BB desktop manager. Where's a link to the proper file formats?
  • Morchej Sep 8, 2009 @ 12:49 am | delete
    I use SocialScope.
It's the greates Social App. :-)

I have added this to favs, will take time to look at all the great apps.

I have 2 that I would recommend the first is Bolt a browser that works far better than the default and opera mini.

Viigo used to be just an RSS feed reader, but has now added a whole load of new features, well worth a look.

    Will definately be back

Call Client for BlackBerry is an awesome FREE app for the business users.

It's a phone list manager that lets you run down a list of phone numbers and take notes of the status of each call.

Call Client is perfect for on-the-go salesmen, cold calling, busy parents that make lots of phone calls, or just those who need to maintain lots of phone lists/phone numbers on a daily basis . Use Call Client's built-in notes feature to help you remember exactly what you discussed or need to track during your phone call. Use Call Client's capability to add and manage multiple phone lists to keep different call groups separate and organized (example: a call list for all of your Georgia customers).
