My Blackberry Curve Phone Addiction: aka Crackberry

Addicted to my Blackberry Curve: Living Life with a Crackberry on Hand at All Times

Once you buy a Blackberry, you'll never go back. The Blackberry Curve is that addictive. Being connected to your email and to the internet 24/7 nearly anywhere in the world is something that you'll get used to quickly, enjoy, and become dependent on. Are phones like the Blackberry Curve similar to a drug? Well, you can use them, abuse them, they're sometimes sold illegally, and might even be a little bit destructive on your personal life if you aren't careful... but is the "high" of having 24/7 email and internet access worth any negative consequences?

How I Was Reeled in by the Blackberry (The Dealer Strikes)

Addiction sets in quickly with this wireless device!

At first, I was very resistant to the Blackberry or any phone that had email access. Why would I want to be connected all the time? I enjoyed my time away from the computer. I had purchased a Palm Pilot years back, and I wasn't happy at all with the usability of it. It took an eternity to get connected online, and the PDA was huge. It also wasn't a phone, so I had no need to take except maybe on vacations.

So what sold me on the Blackberry?

I was an email checker before. I would check my email several times a day. Start up and log onto the computer, log into your email, read. Log out, log off, turn off the PC, and repeat. This process can become very tedious. I was also curious about having access to the web 24/7. There are so many instances where it would've been helpful to have internet access, I knew I would use this (like "when are the movies playing?"). Like a sign from above, there was a sale on the latest Blackberry Curve model, and my contract was up, so I had a credit for the phone. I wound up paying only around $100 for my phone between the credit and the sale, which I thought was a bargain. But the first hit is always free...

Verizon Blackberry Curve Phone

The phone that I have (and the reason for my Crackberry addiction)

The Blackberry Curve 8330 is the phone that I have. It has an easy to use QWERTY keyboard and has a decent sound quality. Email access and set up is simple and only takes a couple of minutes (literally a couple of minutes, it's not hard at all). It helps to organize your work schedule and busy life through Bluetooth, memo pads, voice notes recording, automatic dialing, and calendar. You can also download new appliactions, but browser and camera phone will automatically be included. The feature I use the most? The email messages, which come through as soon as you receive them.

.. a friend first recommended that I try the Blackberry Curve next time I had to upgrade my phone. I did. And then I was hooked.

The Best Parts of Owning a Blackberry

How it changes your life.. for the better

It's not all bad having a Blackberry. In fact, it's pretty nice being connected all the time. One of the other benefits is that friends, your work, or clients can email you instead of texting you. Text often has a character limit of around 160 characters, but in an email, you're unlimited. Respond right away, email back, or delete it from your email. Or, just ignore it.

Withdrawal Symptoms from your Blackberry

What to expect when you haven't been around your Blackberry

The withdrawal symptoms for being without access to your Blackberry can be frightening. Reaching for the phone when it's not in your pocket is one of the biggest ones. It's like the wild west, but in place of the gun, it's a Blackberry. A cowboy from the wild west without his gun would be lost. A Crackberry addict without his berry, too, will be very lost. Here are some of the other horrifying symptoms you could experience without your phone:

1. No email access. You actually have to log onto a computer and check your email.

2. The muscles in your thumbs start to swell with disuse. You've developed some pretty hefty thumb muscles, and it would be a shame to let them become sloppy and out of shape.

3. An inability to enjoy anything in life, because your worried about Blackberry and feel disconnected. You're just waiting for that next fix from your phone.

Blackberry - A True Addiction, or Just Hype?

Are you truly addicted, or is it just mental?

Okay, we all keep talking about addiction, but does it really exist? Are we making it all up? Is carrying around this device around with you everywhere you go really worth it?

In other words, are cellphones like the Blackberry something that will enhance life, or are they ruining it? It might be hard to remember way back when there was no SMS gateways.

Is life better with wireless handheld devices like the Blackberry?

Yes! They've made life easier and better.

kiwisoutback says:

The negatives aren't all that bad. You can always shut off your phone, it's just mustering up that initial discipline to disconnect yourself from your Blackberry. Easier said than done though. I can think of a few instances where receiving the email instantly through my phone was very important, so I'm glad I have one.

No! Life sucks with all of these cellphones and devices. What happened to the good old days?

I don't own one of these - but I do sort of wish I had something along these lines: you know, querty keyboard and the ability to twitter from anywhere does sound sort of appealing.
