Blackberry Neck - what is it and how to avoid it

Got neck?

Most women are aware of "turkey neck" - you know, where you've got a wobbly section that waves on its own when you turn your head? But, you might not be aware of the newest neck affliction - Blackberry neck.

Now, of course, Blackberry neck has not been medically described and is a created affliction by a midtown New York spa which, of course, has a "treatment" for saggy, wrinkly necks supposedly created by looking at a Blackberry (why it's not iPhone neck or Smart Phone neck or "insert phone name" neck is beyond me).

Note: if you like this lens, please click the "Thumbs up" button at the top left, right under the title - that helps the lens get more popular. Thanks!

Strivectin treatments

I personally love Strivectin and actually think the neck treatment has reduced my own waddle.

Ways to avoid Blackberry neck

The best way to avoid Blackberry neck is to follow some of the below ideas. These will, supposedly, reduce neck wrinkles.
  1. Look up from your Blackberry. As you look down at the Blackberry in your lap, your neck will naturally wrinkle. Look up at least every minute to reduce Blackberry Neck.
  2. Better yet, hold your Blackberry at eye level. This trick will not only help you avoid Blackberry neck but it might just help with your underarm flab too (don't you hate when your arms do their own wave in the wind?).
  3. Head to midtown New York and get a massage for $200. Yes, you read that right - $200. But, this special Blackberry neck massage uses sapphire crystals, a special serum, an oxygen mask and laser lights. It's got to be amusing, if nothing else. But, for $200, you'll only be amused for 45 minutes....
  4. Do neck stretches. Look to the left and press your ear to your shoulder for 15 seconds. Do the same thing on the right side. Repeat 5 times every hour to avoid Blackberry neck.
  5. Throw the darned phone away. I remember how much I enjoyed not having a cell phone. Remember when you could get in a car to "get away from it all?" Now, "it all" follows you with an irritating cell phone ring.

Blackberry Neck (aka Turkey Neck) treatments

The below are just a smathering of "treatments" for turkey neck. Some work, such as Strivectin (proof is in my own reduced wobble), but you'll have to try a few to see which work best for you.

Ok, so maybe you can't get rid of Blackberry neck. Maybe you're just predisposed to look like a turkey. If so, use some of these ideas to de-emphasize the problem area.

Turtleneck dickies are a great way to camoflage a turkey neck...

...when it's warm out

Dickies used to be popular back in the day (in the 70s). I had a slew of them and am about to buy another slew. The below are my favorite turtleneck dickie - they're lightweight and cool enough to wear on a breezy summer night.

Do you have a neck wrinkle treatment you love?

I read a book once about facelift without surgery and it recommended some interesting exercises to firm up the neck area. I need to look that up again.
