Black History Trivia

Let's celebrate the people and events of Black History in America. The study of African-American history has come a long way since Dr. Carter G. Woodson instituted Negro History Week in 1926. Woodson chose a week in February to coincide with existing African-American celebrations of the births of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. Today what was once Negro History Week has expanded to February's African-American History Month.

I had the opportunity to meet Carter G. Woodson, Jr. in 1967 when I lived in Tuskegee, Alabama with my uncle Robert L. Tucker who was a mortician and funeral director for the Locklair Funeral Home.
Mr. Locklair was the first Black Congressman since Reconstruction. Also, Johnny Ford was elected Mayor and Lucious Anderson was the Sheriff of Tuskegee. Dr.Patterson was President of then called Tuskegee Institute.

Lionel Richie and the Commodores was still students at the college. Dr. Keith Black, Head of Neurosurgey at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles family had a farm outside of Tuskegee. Radio host and media entrepreneur Tom Joiner was a student there at this particular time. Great lens on some of the great accomplishments of our forefathers.
