Introduction to Black Mountain
Black Mountain is a town in Buncombe County, in the Asheville metro area. The community was named for the Black Mountain Range. The latitude of Black Mountain is 35.617N. The longitude is -82.321W. It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 2,405 feet. Those are a few specifics about Black Mountain, North Carolina.
Now why did I choose to write a lens on this city, and this state? Well, that is because I want to move there so bad I cannot stand it. Every single time I go to Black Mountain, I feel as if the mountains just envelope me in this comfort. Some may understand that statement and some may not but when you find a place that you automatically feel at home in- that is a huge statement for someone who has never stayed in one area for a long period of time.
All of the photos in this lens are pictures I took during some of our visits to this town. I hope you enjoy this and if you ever get a chance and live in this part of the world, you should take a weekend and just go exploring the beauty there. Okay, I had to draw an arrow on this picture to show you how the town of Black Mountain sits in the middle of the mountains.

An Example of the Magick

During one of mine and my husbands visits to Black Mountain, we were walking our dog and looked up to see this beautiful sky. Yes, it is over casted and yes, we did have my camera with us. You never know when you will want to take a picture. I mean come on, I take pictures of tree stumps.
Now, I know what you are thinking-why would we call this picture Stairway to Heaven? Well, the cloud formation in the middle of the picture looks just like it is connecting the Earth Plain to the Heaven Plain which would be the obvious explanation. The whole truth is; when we are in that area that is the exactly how both of our energies feel. When you hear the word Heaven in general, you automatically get this ethereal feeling, a peacefulness and calmness comes over you (usually). For us in Black Mountain, we keep that feeling until the day we leave.

Montreat, North Carolina
Montreat is only a blink away from Black Mountain

Montreat, North Carolina is a special mountain cove nestled at the foot of Graybeard Mountain near the Tennessee Valley Divide. Located at the eastern end of Buncombe County and surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains.
It is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is best known for its Presbyterian retreat center, Montreat College, and for being the home of evangelist Billy Graham and his late wife Ruth Bell Graham.
The day I took this picture, my husband and I went exploring and came across this tiny town. Well, we turned and seen this area away from everything-so we went exploring some more. I was standing on a little wooden bridge when I took this picture. Again, it was over casted with a light rain, but that was okay, it was wonderful because I love the way the woods smell when it rains.
It ended up raining that whole weekend, but I still got some good pictures.

- I love mountains, and this looks a wonderful place to visit! I so like those rushing mountain streams. I was born in Ireland and there are some great mountains there, we use to go on long trips and have picnics in beautiful places when I was a child.

- I love Montreat and spent a time there years ago. Would love to go back. I used to work at a Camp near Lake Lure and it was beautiful there, too. You just can't beat the Carolinas. That's for sure. - My husband and I plan on retiring in either upstate SC or NC. The area is so pretty and we are tired of the heat that comes with living along the coast.
Thanks for sharing.

- I live a couple of hours to the west, in Murphy, NC, and I know what you mean about the western NC mountains. I moved here in 1984 and it's the only place I've every really considered my home town, even though I wasn't born here. I lived in Asheville for a year or so, but moved back to Cherokee County and love it here. Black Mountain is a great little town. I hope you are able to move there. Act on your dream! JD

- I have a fondness for the Smoky Mountains and the Asheville area, the area where North Carolina and Tennessee meet. My mother in law was from Newport, TN about an hour away from Gatlinburg which is beautiful too! I know what you mean about the MAGICK. Not sure if I've been to Black Mountain, I have to check the map, but the whole area has many places with AWESOME energy!!! Thanks for sharing your fondness for Black Mountain.
