Blackout Curtains

Blackout curtains aren't exactly the first things that come in mind when you hear "window curtains"; in fact, many people who are familiar with these curtains prefer not to get them, instead they'd rather get more fashionable and stylish designs. Blackout curtains were specially designed for specific reasons, not typically to improve your home décor but they come in very handy sometimes that they're even better than those stylish window curtains. It all depends on the reasons why you want to cover your window. Is it to block the sunlight? Or is it to make the room look good?

Blackout Curtains for Your Home Cinema

The most exciting day of the week is your day off, when you get to take a break from all your hard work and relax and watch a movie with your family and friends especially if you have a home cinema set up. There's nothing better than getting to enjoy a great movie at home. Usually people would rather watch their movie at night because it's dark and it really makes you feel like you're in a cinema. But what if you want to watch it during the day? Won't the sunlight spoil it for you? Not if you have blackout curtains!

Blackout curtains were specifically designed to block out the sunlight that comes in through the windows. What makes it any different than a normal window curtain? Well, window curtains usually let most of the sunlight through them even when they're drawn but blackout curtains are made of several layers of thick material. It depends on the company you choose to buy them from.

The history of blackout curtains goes back a long time ago, when people needed to hide themselves and their homes from the enemies during the war, they used to cover their windows with dark material and even have them painted especially for the night, that's when blackout curtains were created to cover windows and glass doors so people could have their lights on indoors without being discovered.

Blackout curtains also help in your home cinema by reducing the amount of sound coming from the outside. They were never meant to soundproof a room but with the thick material they're made of they reduce the noise at least 50%, this means you can enjoy watching your movie in total darkness any time of the day and without noise and racket coming from outside.

Blackout Curtains Help Conserve Energy

There are a lot of benefits you can get from installing blackout curtains that many people don't know of. The main thing blackout curtains were designed for was to make sure sunlight doesn't enter the room and help keep it as dark as possible. Though that is not all blackout curtains do, they also help conserve energy at home without many owners even knowing it.

How do they conserve energy?
Most areas where people live in summer get really hot and everybody is forced to turn on their air conditioners. Unfortunately, most people have to have them on all day in order to stay cool because once they turn them off it gets hot immediately. But for people who own blackout curtains and have them covering their windows don't suffer the same, they can keep their ACs on for a couple of hours and the room will stay cool for the rest of the day, these people have much shorter electricity bills no doubt and could use their money elsewhere.

Also in the summer the same goes with heaters; in many houses people have to keep their heaters on day and night so they won't freeze to death when others keep them on for a little while during the day and the house stays warm for several hours afterwords.

This is most likely because these people don't have built in isolators in their walls that help conserve energy inside the house. But even without these built in isolators you can conserve energy by installing blackout curtains on your windows because they are very similar to isolators. Basically they don't allow heat (or cool air) escape through them, so at least 40% of your energy is being saved. It depends on how many windows are covered with these curtains. However, energy will still manage to escape through your walls so don't depend on your blackout window curtains to do the best job.

Blackout Curtains %u2013 Sleep Any Time during the Day

It might sound a little odd to most people because it's already dark enough at night and it isn't really necessary to have blackout curtains, what many don't know is that some people can't sleep even if there's the slightest sign of light outside, like the street lights and car headlights as they are passing by. That's when it's handy to have blackout curtains.

These curtains are also good for the day, for people who want to enjoy a little nap and take a break. It can be really frustrating when there's light in the room in spite of curtains being drawn, that's why you need to buy special blackout curtains that make sure the room stays completely dark.

They come in really handy if you have a baby; as we all know, babies sleep during the day and the night, so they need to enjoy some peace and quiet too in order for them to actually fall asleep.

The most useful time for blackout curtains in my opinion is during the day when people who have odd working hours have to sleep. It's not rare, many people have weird shifts and work all night and by the time they get home it's already morning and what can be more frustrating and stressful is when they can't catch any sleep because of the sunlight that's coming in. It's good to save yourself the stress and trouble and install blackout curtains to help you get some shut eye any time you want.
