I also LOVE peppercorns freshly ground, of course; but, I also am curious about the original question-"is it digestable or not". Also, my own question is: what about the mixed colored peppercorns. Are they all just as beneficial healthwise as black peppercorns?

Did you know that black pepper is one of the most acidic foods on this planet?

I discovered that Black Pepper when sprinkled on a wound or sore will aid in speeding healing of an infected area. I put polysporin oinment over the area and sprinkle a lot
of Black Pepper on the oinment. Then cover with a stireal gauze and paper tape.
Check it every day and watch the healing affect that Black Pepper produces.

I seriously question these findings. I use A LOT of pepper, to the point where I even sweat a little bit. Yet, I have gas coming out of both ends. My Naturopath Doctor says my stomach doesn't produce enough acid for digestion, so, if Pepper is supposed to help, I don't see the result. Heartburn? I get that at times too. So, all of these supposed findings don't seem accurate in my case anyway.

This is a marvellous natural thing whaich has the benifits beyond our thoughts.
Health benifits related with digestion and improvement of immune mechanisms and cytokines and other signalling molecules productions by the immune system. There is no evidence based research done untill now but with the revolution of humanity it will occur in future.

Yes, that is why the article mentions that the skin of the black peppercorn is full of antioxidants.

I prefer Cayenne pepper -- it is also revered in the alternative health community and chiefly by medicinal herbalists for its remarkable array of health benefits.

I listen to my body and it loves black peppers. They simply are the best. We are fortunate we don't have to pay with gold to have such a great gift of nature. Life is good when there are black peppers :)

I enjoy experimenting with spice combination, and black pepper seems rarely out of place. Got a kick out of the "Cannibalistic Cookbook" type above (Black Pepper in the News). Very much enjoying your "food as medicine" series. Lensrolling this one, too.

This still doesn't answer my question of is black pepper digestible...
I understand its healthy for you, but this didn't answer my question.
  • Bill Aug 7, 2010 @ 8:47 pm | delete
It is digestable and actually increases the flow of stomach acid. It is also rich in anti-oxidents.

wow.. seriously? if its not digestible and he is saying to eat it every day, then your stomach would fill with it after only a few months or so.. so the obvious answer is yes, it is digestible...
