My name is Angeline Bandon-Bibum, and I am originally from Atlantic City, New Jersey. At eighteen years old, I matriculated to Howard University. At Howard, I met my husband of more than twenty years, Chrys, who is from Cameroon. After graduating from Howard University, we remained in the Washington, D.C. area. We have lived in the greater Washington, D.C. area since.

Since the age of ten, I had been interested in a becoming writer. Growing up, I wrote short stories and some poems. As a teenager, this desire to be a writer continued to burn slowly within me.

Barbara Joe-Williams is a long-term resident of Tallahassee, Florida. However, she was born and raised in Rosston, Arkansas. She spent four years in the U.S. Navy prior to attending college. She holds an A.A. degree in Office Education from Tallahassee Community College. She has a B.S. degree in Business Education and a M.Ed. in Counseling Education from Florida A&M University.

Denise Jannah
Denise Jannah was born in Suriname, South America. With her family she moved to Holland in the mid seventies. For 4,5 years she studied Law at the University of Utrecht , but her love for music made her change her course: she enrolled into the Conservatory in Hilversum and completed her studies there, also earning her degree as a vocal educator.

In 1989 she won third prize at the Internationales Liederfestival "Menschen und Meer" in Rostock, former D.D.R. In that year she also was offered an important part in the musical "A Night at the Cotton Club" in which she starred in 347 performances in Holland, Germany and Belgium.
Diane Abbott
In 1987 Diane Abbott made history by becoming the first black woman ever elected to the British Parliament. She has since built a distinguished career as a parliamentarian, broadcaster and commentator.

In the Beginning
Diane was born in London in 1953. She attended the grammar school Harrow County and then went on to Newnham College Cambridge where she obtained a Masters degree in history.

When she left Cambridge University Diane joined Government as a Home Office Civil Servant. She went on to work for the lobby group the National Council for Civil Liberties, then she became a journalist. She worked extensively as a freelancer and she went on to work as a reporter for the breakfast television company TV-AM and Thames Television. And she also worked as a public relations consultant for various public sector clients.
Deatri King-Bey
When Deatri was six years old, her mother was told that because of
Deatri's dyslexia, she'd probably never learn how to read. At that
time it was recommended Deatri partake in a specialized reading
curriculum. Unbeknownst to Deatri's parents, this additional help
their daughter would need was actually Deatri being taken out of
reading class to sit in the hallway with a tape recorder for a teacher.

When Deatri entered the fourth grade at a different school, her
parents were terrified to learn their daughter couldn't read. For
years she'd been reciting the bedtime stories to her mother from
memory instead of actually reading the written words from the
pages. My have times changed.
Elaine Lee
Elaine Lee is the author/editor of "Go Girl: The Black Woman's Book of Travel and Adventure" published by Eighth Mountain Press in October of 1997. She is a freelance writer who specializes in ethnic and women's travel. She has contributed to the following magazines and webzines: Heart and Soul, Bet.com, Maiden Voyages, Essence, Emerge, Black Enterprise, Upscale, Science of Mind, Global Black Woman, Bark, NetNoir.com, Adventuredivas.com, African American Women On Tour's National Newspaper Supplement, Ms., Transitions Abroad, Quarterly Black Review of Books. She has also contributed stories to four anthologies: Beyond L.A. Fiona Zedde moved to the United States from Jamaica as an adolescent. After spending her formative years in Florida and gaining an undergraduate degree in Gender Studies and British and American Literature at New College of Florida, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she currently resides. Gloria Mallette's first novel, WHEN WE PRACTIVE TO DECEIVE, a small mass market paperback was published in November 1995 by Holloway House Publishing Company while she was employed part-time as a Federal Perkins Loan Coordinator at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York. One year later Gloria resigned her position to pursue writing full-time. However, by 2000, with five manuscripts and several rejection letters from major publishing houses in her file cabinet, with a mighty shove from her husband, Gloria stepped timidly onto the self-published track.

Gloria Wekker
Gloria Wekker is a social and cultural anthropologist, specializing in Women's Studies, African American Studies, and Caribbean Studies, with additional interest in clinical psychology. Wekker studied Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam and holds a PhD from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA, 1992). Her doctoral dissertation, Ik Ben een Gouden Munt [I Am a Gold Coin] centers on constructions of subjectivity and sexuality among Creole working-class women in Suriname. This research interest has become a longitudinal project (1990 - 2002) and its results will be published by Columbia University Press in 2003. Wekker holds the IIAV - chair on gender end ethnicity from 2001 - 2006.
