Blair L. Hornstine graduated high school from Moorestown, New Jersey. Blair received publicity when she filed suit against the Moorestown Township Board of Education and its Superintendent. Superintendent Paul Kadri attempted to change school policy designed to award the status of valedictorian to the pupil with the highest grade point average. Blair was diagnosed with a rare disability called chronic fatigue syndrome. With the assistance of her IEP team at school, she excelled through partial home schooling.
Paul Kadri tried to circumvent the rules and attempted to make the runner-up his choice for valedictorian even though he had a lower grade point average. Paul Kadri's actions were later found to be discriminatory and unlawful. Blair Hornstine sued to ensure her position and defend the rights of all disabled students that are protected by despicable actions of people like Paul Kadri through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) . Blair's goal was to show that she earned this award "despite of, not because of her disability." Though Federal Court Judge Wolfson forbade the school to wrong Blair Hornstine, the media sent the wrong message to its viewers and readers about Blair and the people who suffer from this disorder.

Blair was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disorder which damaged her whole body leaving sores on her skin. This dramatically changed her life, and the controversy surrounding the court decision led to ignorant remarks from people who didn't understand why she was fighting so hard. Hornstine was eventually subjected to so much harassment in school and in her community that it made it difficult for her to even go outside her house.

Though Blair lived with such a life altering disease, she still managed to live a happy, productive life by volunteering for charity and dedicating as much time as she could to her education as displayed on this link that has info on Blair Hornstine.

Blair is a superb student and with all she has contributed to society, she deserves our respect. Blair Hornstine fought for what was right against overwhelming odds. Her fight against Paul Kadri and the Board of Education shows that with will power and self confidence anything can be overcome.
