You have to kiss a stone to get to kiss a lot of girls I suppose! ;))
Hope you had a fun 'Green weekend!'

Aye, and couldn't we all use a bit more Blarney on our lives?
  • VickiSims Mar 18, 2012 @ 2:22 am | delete
I've never kissed the Blarney Stone and thought perhaps I'd like to until I heard it was voted one of the germiest places on earth - then my germophobic OCD kicked in and I decided I'd rather keep my lips away. It would still be a fun place to visit someday. Great information. A St. Paddy's Day blessing to you!
  • joycetmann Mar 17, 2012 @ 10:15 pm | delete
Happy St. Patrick's Day. I feel so fortunate that I once had the chance to kiss the famous blarney stone...and that's no blarney!

I heard about kissing the Blarney stone in the documentary. If there is chance that I visit Ireland, I will definitely do it. Thanks!
  • bakerwoman Mar 12, 2012 @ 9:32 pm | delete
Yes, I will kiss the Blarney Stone just to get a gift of eloquence if that is what it takes. Thanks for the fun St. Patrick's Day lens.
  • KonaGirl Mar 12, 2012 @ 9:00 pm | delete
I am part Irish, but haven't yet made it to Ireland. My friends tell me I don't need to kiss the Blarney stone because I already have the gift of gab & I think I'm already full of blarney! LOL! I want to go to Ireland badly though. It is next on the list once I have been to every state in the union. Only 4 more states to go. This is a great lens, btw. Who knew there were so many origins to the Blarney stone. *Blessed*

I am Irish, both parents. Grandparents born in Ireland. In June of 2010 some of my sisters, a cousin and myself went to Ireland for our family reunion and did kiss the Blarney stone. What a beautiful country. And friendly wonderful people.
  • COUNTRYLUTHIER Jun 14, 2011 @ 10:20 pm | delete
I think me great uncle Ed O'Shaunessy-Seaton laid lips upon the stone before the family came over. Sadly his page was later ripped from the family genealogy for other shennanigans he pulled back in the old country. I do long to visit Ireland one day and if I'm feeling especially chipper, perhaps the stone will get to meet me too. Thanks for sharing again JJ!
  • JohnnyCrayola Jun 14, 2011 @ 11:51 am | delete
According to my Mom I was born with the gift of gab. I've never kissed the Blarney Stone, but I am part Irish. If I ever did kiss it there would probably be no way of shutting me up!

All along the lens, I've been wondering about the origins of the legend - and there I found it, in the story about Elizabeth I.
Giving her "a lot of Blarney" - haha, I loved that!
  • Mar 21, 2011 @ 9:48 pm | delete
interesting article,i never heard of that stone before,i'm glad to learn something new.

Dude, you could make out with millions of people in one kiss!
  • Cardtouche Mar 21, 2011 @ 6:00 am | delete
Haven't kissed it myself yet but have friends who have been there - one got a severe crick in the neck and the other couldn't get near it due to renovations!
It does seem rather awkward to actually get near enough to kiss.
Nice lens though, didn't know about the Queen Elizabeth I bit - thanks

I'll be checking me family tree to see if there be Irish in some part O'me. Great Job and congrats on the lens of the day. The US Navy never sent me to those parts of Europe, they dangled it in front of us once and dashed our hopes. None the less, you certainly have re-invigorated my interest in visiting Ireland one day.

Been there and done it, backwards and all. Actually it was the least magical bit of my visit to the site as it felt rather 'organised'. The best bit was wandering amongst the gnarled and twisted Yew trees nearby that felt like a Druidical meeting place.
  • kiwisoutback Aug 9, 2010 @ 7:42 pm | delete
A stone as a pillow? They must have had some serious spinal alignment issues back in the day. I never knew the history of the Blarney Stone, though I should because I'm mostly Irish (and my relatives are from County Cork from what I hear).
Thanks for the education! I'm lensrolling this to my St. Patrick's Day shirts lens.
  • paperfacets Jun 9, 2010 @ 6:57 pm | delete
I visited Ireland and loved walking through the old castles and ruined churches. I am afraid of heights so I did not kiss the stone. It just seemed like you were getting too close to open space.
The sheep on the green rollings hills were so pretty to see from the top of the Castle.
  • AndyPo Apr 20, 2010 @ 1:47 pm | delete
Excellent. Would you believe that I have never been to that part of Ireland (yet)? It's on the list of places to go and at the moment we're travelling closer to home rather than doing too many long-haul flights, so maybe we'll get there soon.

With a name like "blarney" I find it hard to believe in the positive outcomes of kissing a stone. LOL
    Congratulations on the purple star.

I'm supposed to be part Irish, but I don't know if that's true or one of the many bits of blarney my parents bandied about. I've never been to Ireland, but if I were to ever go outside the USA, Scotland & Ireland would be my destinations of choice. I loved this lens. Congratulations on the Purple Star!

Oh this is so cute, especially with St.Patty's Day coming soon. Thanks for the info I didn't know! My daughter-in-love, and in-law, is due with a baby girl on St. Patty's Day this year. Really cool is her maiden name is Kirkpatrick. We both think it would be really neat for her to have the baby on her due date, and that little precious girl would have her daddy's (my son's) fire-engine red hair at birth!!!! The ultimate topper would be green eyes. It's a possibility, as my mother & brother have green eyes; I've got brown hazel (brown/green), and my son has blue hazel (blue/green).

Wow, so much information. I've surely heard of the Blarney Stone, but would not have known where to find it. This is the first lens I've seen with the new St. Patty's Day theme. Very cool! Deserves a green, er uh, purple star, if you ask me!

I've always heard about it, but am glad to have learned more about it's history and meaning. Thanks, Julie!

How cool Kevin! So you had a remarkable once in a lifetime experience AND left your DNA on the Blarney Stone too? ;)
  • Spook Jul 27, 2009 @ 10:45 am | delete
By golly gumdrops Ma'am, only about three weeks ago I went there with my brother and sister in law. Being scared of heights and having terrible balance I managed to get up there and do it. However they yanked me back up whilst I was still arching my neck back and only managed to rub my nose on it. Subsequently have lost whatever eloquence I used to have but am hanging in as I do b'lieve in some cultures rubbing noses counts as kissing.

Blarney Castle grounds are GORGEOUS! Climbed to the top, but didn't kiss it myself. I'm gabby enough as it is;)

I seem to only be able to kiss the Blarney Stone when amongst intimate friends. It never works in a crowd.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! May you find a Blarney Stone to kiss whenever the need arises.

I have never kissed the Blarney Stone. A little sad to have a stone as a pillow for a dying man!

I would love to kiss the Blarny stone. If I dig deep enough, I'll bet there's a least of drop of Irish blood in my veins.
    Great lens.
