What are Backlinks anyway?

A backlink is also referred to as an inbound link. It is a link on another site that leads to your own. It is important to get a large number of backlinks that are reputably obtained for several reasons. First, in Search Engine Optimization, part of the algorithm for ranking your page on search engines is determined by the number and quality of backlinks to your site, providing they occur naturally and you have not purchased them. Nofollow attribute values are most often used on sites with user generated content, like user comments and blogs. Backlinks with this html attribute add little value to your rankings.

Dofollow - Dofollow refers to normal links that do not have the "nofollow" tag. Websites that do not use "nofollow" are called "dofollow". Both types of links look exactly the same when you view a Web page. However, when you look at the HTML for a Web page (by viewing the text of the source file), you can tell the difference. It should be obvious that the good links (dofollow) are the ones that will help your website's rankings and are the ones you should be striving for.
