Teeth Whitening With Invisalign Braces

My own orthodontist supplied me with NiteWhite 10% whitening gel to use in my trays. At this strength the gel needs to be worn overnight in your bleaching trays, so you put it in before bed and clean it out in the morning. However, I have subsequently discovered that there are other strength NiteWhite gels available that only need to be worn for a shorter time frame such as an hour. If your think that you would prefer faster results why not try one of these stronger strength gels?

One important point to note as highlighted above is that you should NOT attempt to bleach and whiten your teeth when they have Invisalign attachments or buttons on them.

This is because your teeth under the buttons would remain unbleached and it is then very difficult to ever get them to be an even colour again.

Instead you should bleach either at the beginning of your treatment before the buttons are attached, or at the end of the treatment when your attachments have been removed. This way your teeth will look even and beautifully white.

My own preference is bleaching in the first couple of weeks of Invisalign before the attachments are added. This is because it gives you a real boost to suddenly see your teeth looking so much whiter than before.

This is what I did when using Nitewhite with my Invisalign. Remember, before tooth whitening that you should check with your dentist whether they are happy for you to whiten with Invisalign. Also, this description relates to the Nitewhite 10% gel that I used. Whichever gel you are using, read the instruction booklet and follow the instructions laid out there. Even if you are using the same product as me the instructions may have now changed.

Firstly, I brushed and flossed my teeth thoroughly to make sure that they were sparkling clean. I then took the syringe of gel and carefully placed one drop of gel into each tooth space in my Invisalign aligner. There is a guide within the Nitewhite instructions that shows you how big each drop should be. Do not put more in than suggested as it then gets onto your gums which can make them sensitive.

I then inserted the aligners as normal and carefully removed any excess gel from my gums with a Q tip. Interestingly, my aligners felt tighter then normal when I put them on with the gel in.

I then went to bed for a normal night.

In the morning upon wakening I got up, rinsed the aligners carefully and brushed and flossed my teeth as usual to remove any gel. I then repeated this for several nights over the course of which my teeth got dramatically whiter.
