Slovenian pearl

Bled is the most beautiful place in Slovenia. It is very well known by its lake, island and castle. The place has many hotels, restaurants, cafes, shopping centre, bathing areas, small hill called Straza, camping place and many other. Around the Lake Bled goes the path, which takes us about one hour of walking. The main bathing areas are in Velika Zaka, Mala Zaka and under the Bled Castle. In the castle is a museum, chapel, restaurant, wine cellar, castle printing works and other. From here is a nice view to the Lake Bled with the island. Bled is a popular place for weddings. In the Bled Island is the interesting Church of the Assumption. You can go to the island with the traditional boat called pletna.

Lake Bled

Most visited lake in Slovenia

Lake BledLake Bled is the most beautiful lake in Slovenia beside Lake Bohinj. Around the lake Bled is nice walking path about 6 kilometers long. I suggest you to go around because you will see Bled Island and also Bled Castle from all directions. You will also see other interesting things on the way. Around the lake are more beaches where you can swim in summer like Velika Zaka, Mala Zaka, Castle Bathing Area, Mlino, etc. If you don't like to walk all path around the lake you can catch a tourist train that stops on more stations marked with special sign.

Bled - Spa Park

Bled - Spa ParkSpa Park is located in the centre of Bled, near the lake. It was made around 1891, when Spa Home was built. Spa Park was designed by gardeners Matevz and Joza Cop. There are many footpaths, a pavilion, memorial plate for Arnold Rikli and other. Arnold Rikli was a beginner of the spa tourism in Bled. It is a nice place for relaxing.

Church of St. Martin

Church of St. MartinChurch of St. Martin is located near the city centre. The church was built in the year 1905 on the place of the former gothic church from the 15th century. Already before the year 1000 was built here the first chapel. The walls are from the 15th century. The Church of St. Martin is situated on the smaller hill and from there is a nice view to surroundings.

Bled Island

Bled IslandBled Island is located in the middle of the greenish Lake Bled. You can go to the island with the traditional boat called pletna. On the Bled Island is a small romantic church, where lots of couples decide to get married. The Bled Island was already settled in the minor Stone Age. The interesting stony staircase with the 99 stairs and the Chapel of the Mother of God were built in the 17th century. The Bled Island is very well known by ringing to the bell.

Bled CastleBled Castle is a powerful castle, which is located on the steep slope of the Lake Bled. It is a symbol of Bled and Slovenia. The Bled Castle has lower and upper courtyard. You can see the chapel, printing works, wine cellar, museum and other. There is also a restaurant with delicious food and drink. From the castle is a wonderful view to the lake. In summer time they organize medieval shows with dancing and music. Bled Castle is a nice place for a wedding.

Velika Zaka

One of the best beaches around Lake Bled

Lake Bled - Velika ZakaVelika Zaka is a bathing area at Lake Bled. There is nice beach that was renovated in last time and from there is the shortest distance to Bled Island so you can even swim there if you are brave enough. Just near the beach on the opposite side of the road is restaurant and small shop. And just a little further is Camping Bled. At Velika Zaka is also train stop for tourist train that rides around Lake Bled.

Camping BledCamping Bled is located in Zaka, which is about two kilometres from the centre of Bled. The camping place is operating from the year 1950. It is ranked in the highest category of campgrounds. Camping Bled is suitable for all those who wants active holidays or just a relaxing break in the nature. In the nearness is a good restaurant and a grocery store. In the camp is available to do many sport activities and they also organize different events.

Osojnica and Ojstrica

Lake Bled from OjstricaOsojnica and Ojstrica are hills above Lake Bled. You can start hike near Velik Zaka in the direction to Mlino. Soon you will see direction signs uphill. After some time you will see sign for Ojstrica. There is bench and one of the best views of Lake Bled. From Ojstrica you can continue uphill to Osojnica where is also wonderful view of Lake Bled. When you descent from Osojnica you have to be careful especially in autumn because of tree leaves and in winter.

Mala Zaka

Mala ZakaMala Zaka is not so far away from Velika Zaka. Mala Zaka is also popular beach near Lake Bled that was renovated in last year. New piers were made and some other improvements on the beach like new benches. Just near the beach is restaurant and bar where you can buy some drink or eat lunch or just dessert. At Mala Zaka is also building for rowing club and statue of boatman.

Cafe Belvedere

Marvellous view to the lake, island and mountains

Cafe BelvedereCafe Belvedere is situated in the south side of the Lake Bled. It is located on thirty metre pillars above the lake. From the cafe is a wonderful view to the lake, island, mountains and surroundings. The plans for the building were made by Joze Plecnik, the famous Slovenian architect. In the Cafe Belvedere is a coffeehouse and a confectionery. They have delicious cakes and other sweets.

Castle Bathing Area

Castle Bathing AreaCastle Bathing Area is popular bathing place just near town Bled. The entrance is not free but place is quite nice with lots of possibilities so it is worth to pay. There you have bar, small restaurant, a lot of shade, small library, dressing rooms, toboggan, small pools for kids, etc. Castle Bathing Area is open only in summer where is lake temperature good for swimming.

Pletna boat transfer

Beautiful boat ride to Bled Island

We can use tradional boat Pletna to visit Bled Island. There are more places where Pletna boats are waiting for visitors (Spa Park, Mlino, Velika Zaka, etc.). During boat ride you can enjoy in beautiful views of Bled Island, Bled Castle, Karavanke mountains, etc. When you come to the island you have to walk by 99 stairs to come to the church and usually you have 30 minutes of time on the island. After that time Pletna boat leaves the island and take you back to the starting point.
