Let Me Just Adjust My Halo...

This lens is all about how I was accepted into the Squidoo SquidAngel program in October 2009. Just what am I looking for when I scout for lenses to bless? You'll find out here on this lens! Learn more about the SquidAngels and just exactly what we do here on Squidoo!

How I Became a SquidAngel

October 13th, 2009

I've been around Squidoo for a few years now, and I knew the SquidAngel program existed. In fact, I've been most fortunate to have several of my lenses blessed by these wonderful individuals! (Thanks!!) But I'd never really given serious thought to applying to the program.

After I finished the Giant Squid Challenge for September 2009 and successfully became a Giant 100 Squid, I saw a message posted that the SquidAngel program was accepting applications. I gave it some thought and decided it was my chance to really work within the Squidoo community and do some good. Especially for the lensmasters like me who have forged their own path on Squidoo and don't realize what a rich and vibrant bunch of lensmasters are there to help them out.

I filled out the application and sent it in but I wasn't really stressed. If I didn't make the cut this time I could always try again next time. (That's the beauty of Squidoo!) But I admit the day the announcement was supposed to be made, I was biting my nails!

Finally, the newest SquidAngels (all 32 of us) were announced. At first I couldn't quite believe my eyes, seeing my name on the list. I was humbled and honored to think that I had made the cut!

October 13th, 2009 ended with a bittersweet note. Shortly after I'd received the news about my new status, we got the news that my great uncle had passed away after a long battle with leukemia. So in a way, Heaven got a new angel and I got my honorary wings down here on Earth.

More About Me

Angels in Heaven

This lens is dedicated to my great aunt and uncle, who have gone on to be with their Lord and Savior in Heaven. This picture was taken when I was six months old and celebrating my first Thanksgiving at their house.

May God grant you many years to live,
For sure He must be knowing.
The Earth has angels all too few.
And Heaven is overflowing.

Blessing Deserving Lenses

It's a Tough Job but Somebody's Gotta Do It!

Deciding when to bless or ding a lens can be a tricky matter. As SquidAngels we have certain criteria we use when making such decisions. We are also encouraged to use our own judgment, with the guidance of HQ, when seeking lenses to bless or ding. No SquidAngel is allowed to abuse their "powers"!

The categories I've been assigned are: Entertainment, Movies & TV and Video Games. This doesn't mean I don't bless lenses outside my categories, I do!

What I Look For When Blessing A Lens:

+ I love original content! Text, pictures, anything and everything original! I'm a writer (and a bit of talker) so when I see someone's gone to great lengths to speak about their subject in their own words I really get excited! Speaking about your subject shows how passionate you are!

+ The 3 U's: Unique, Useful, and Updated! You can pretty much tell when a lens has been abandoned.

+ Obscure subjects. I've made lenses on some topics that are either relatively unknown or appeal to certain people. But I'm passionate about those lenses and do my best to get others interested!

+ Lensmasters who are making quality lenses but haven't seemingly been "noticed" before. All it can take is just one word of encouragement to make a difference!

--

More often than not you won't know I've blessed your lens! I'm more apt to leave a word of encouragement in your guestbook and let you get the thrill of seeing your lensrank rise. I take blessings seriously and I don't dole them out on just any lens. But when I do, that lens is deserves it!

Weeding Out the Junk and the Bad

with my Spork of Justice!

What Will Get Ignored and Possibly Dinged by the Spork of Justice:

- Squidoo TOS (Terms of Service) violators will get dinged and reported faster then you can blink!

- Junk Lenses. If you're here to talk about a product, talk about it! Don't spam readers with links off-site!

- Lenses without avatars (user images) and bios. If you can't fill out your bio or upload an avatar, I will fly right by!

- Lenses full of grammatical errors. One or two spelling mistakes I can forgive. A lens that has text copied and pasted direct from another site (like Wikipedia) or full of errors and hasn't been run through spell check will see me leave without a second glance! I won't waste time on a lens by someone who won't take the time to fix mistakes.

- Lenses on Facebook games, World of Warcraft, or other similar games/apps or "cheats" for these games. You know, there's dozens of these lenses right now and all of them are the same! Pick a new topic.

More On What NOT to Make:

Junk, Spam, and TOS Violators!

Go n-eírí an bóthar leat.

May the road rise with you.

Ooo, Gaelic! Do you speak it? I love your spork. I've only made one entertainment lens because I hardly ever get to the movies and only watch Univision on tv, but it's doing pretty well! Maybe I'll try another one. Good luck with your angel endeavors!
