Katherine is a volunteer animal rescuer in her area of Canton, ME, USA, where she resides with her husband, daughter and little dog. Animal Hugs and Blessings Online Prayer Outreach

Animal Hugs and Blessings Online Prayer Outreach was founded in March, 2009 by Katherine Mikshenas. Katherine has dedicated her life to serving animals through prayer, compassion and God's gentle love, which is the mission of Animal Hugs and Blesssings Online Prayer Outreach. You may request prayer for any animal by reaching Katherine at her e mail address kathymwriting@gmail.com, also posted on the blog http://animalhugsandblessings.wordpress.com.

Each week a weekly prayer list is posted for animals needing prayer. A candle is lit for each prayer request. E mail support is also offered for anyone experiencing a difficult time such as an end of life decision for an animal, an ill or injured animal or the loss of an animal. Support is offered in prayer and friendship.

Katherine is in the process of planting a Sunflower Peace Garden for animals that have passed away. There is a page on the blog listing animals that have passed away. A sunflower will be planted the following planting season to which the animal has transitioned. At the end of the growing season the seeds will be gathered from the sunflowers. A portion of the seeds will be given to the birds for the winter and the remainder of the seeds will be replanted the following growing season. The love of the animal will continue to be shared and the memory will live on in the hearts of all. All services at Animal Hugs and Blessings Online Prayer Outreach are given freely in heartfelt love for all animals and the people that love them.

Help Preserve Wildlife

You can create your own backyard sanctuary using easy tips from the NRCS Natural Resources Conservation Service. Habitat is a combination of food, shelter, water and space or air. Trees, shrubs and plants can all help in providing food and shelter to help preserve wildlife. With a little planning you can research which trees, shrubs and plants can attract variouos kinds of wildlife, birds, butterflies and insects that enhance the environment.

It can be as simple as feeding the birds in winter. Birds struggle in the cold weather just to survive. There is limited amount of food available to them. By placing simple feeders out you can help save the birds and enable them to breed once again.

You can also help by not using pesitcides and growing organically. Animals and birds are very sensitive to chemicals that can be toxic to them. Another way to help is to keep your vehicles tuned up. Be aware that oil, antifreeze and other chemicals can leak from vehicles causing harm to animals, birds and to the environment.
