Manfred Mann's Earthband: Blinded By the Light: Song Lyrics

I have always been confused by the lyrics to Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann's Earthband. I believe that it is possibly one of the most misheard or misunderstood lyrics in rock music history. I have even found myself making up the words as I try to sing along, but thankfully now I have them to hand.

Not that they make much sense to me, even after I have read them. I am not sure what planet Bruce Springsteen was on when he wrote them, but there must be some hidden meaning or double entendre involved.

Nevertheless, this track was one of the biggest in the 1970s career of Manfred Mann, reaching Number 1 in the USA in February, 1977 and selling well worldwide.

On the whole, this gets a big thumbs up from the reviews I have seen. Some detractors mention that The Mighty Quinn is a live recording. Perhaps that is because that track was recorded in the 1960s with a different record label. However, you will get a very nice cross-section of this classic rock band's work here!

I always loved this, but never understood the words. Now that I'm reading them on the video, they make a little more sense. But even though I couldn't decipher what the song was about, I still loved the chorus so much and played it a lot. Thanks for sharing.

Blinded by the Light has been and will always be one of my all time favorites. I keep hearing people talking about problems with understanding the lyrics but for some unknown crazy reason I could understand them from day 1. I do have 100 others that I still don't know the words for but some how the words just fit the music perfectly.
Manfred Mann has had some incredible songs but this one I really rock out on. You should see me when I am stopped at a light and have the tape ( yea, I still have a tape player in the car) playing I'll just tap the steering wheel, the ceiling of the car, windshield and boogie in my seat.
It's a masterpiece. ♫♪ ♫ ♥

A song I used to like when I first heard it, but then I oould never until now figure out the lyrics. I listened, and listened, but to no avail... I got so fed up of "locked up like a doosh-un in the rona of the night" that I grew to hate the song immensly... One of those where the lyrics just weren't clear LOL :)
