Blog Marketing and How To Sell Your Blog

Many bloggers build their blogs with the express plan of selling the blog later.

How to structure your blog so that it will sell easily - at a good price?

In this lens, we explore some of the important elements in building a blog to sell.

Form Your Blog Syndicate

As a blog publisher, you should look out for ways to leverage your content maximally. Syndicating your blog content can earn you money, or bring you higher visibility, get links back to your site and generate free traffic. Oh, and it could even help you sell product.

Setting up your blog intelligently can help maximize every bit of effort you put into your blogging. Think about how your content can be distributed far and wide, to reach many people - automatically.

Your Blog Has a Personality - But Whose?

Unless you plan to get a contract to manage the blog after selling out your interest in it, you need to keep your personality out of the blog itself.

Most blogs are personal voices of their owners. They attract a loyal readership because of it, and if the owner changes these readers will vanish. So to sell a blog, keep it 'impersonal' and focused on the niche topic itself.

There will also be a different emphasis on growth. While you may plan a slow, sustained growth over time for a blog you'll keep, the ones you sell need to ramp up quickly - and that means an aggressive marketing approach.

Setting Up A Blog For Sale

Set up your blog on a separate hosting account, with a unique domain. Install the blogging software on the domain so you can transfer the account entirely to the buyer.

Make sure the domain name can also be easily transferred to a new buyer.

Make Adsense ad blocks easily customizable - or you'll spend hours fixing these before sale. Ditto for affiliate links - it may help if you set them up as redirecting webpages that go through another webpage, making it easy to modify the redirecting page instead of hunting through dozens of previous posts.

Be prepared to lose ownership over the content on your blogs, including graphics, audio or video.
