What's your verdict? Blog or Website?

From the lens Should you start a BLOG or a WEBSITE?.

For me, blogs are more prior than websites because they are easy to update and usually get better rank in search engines too.

I use both. I now have three blogs and two main web sites. Blessed by a Squidoo Angel

From an SEO point of view each have their advantages. With that I say both. I have both for my hiking website and my SEM website.

I registerd a domain name, and ten decided to start a bog. So forwarded it there. I'm still thinking... Website or blog...Website SEOs designing is trouble, whereas Blog is easy but I need to update it often.

I always wondered what the difference is between a blog and a website. Now I see there's a reason for both.

Going for both is hands down the best choice. You can promote a lot of your other websites from your blog since blogs are less niche-specific.

I would opt to use blog over website. Google like blogs because they assume content will be added so they will crawl more (of course, if you do not continue to add content they will stop visiting). It usually takes longer to get a website crawled.

Yes, you should definitely [not definately ;)] start a blog and a website and a lens or two or three! Cool idea my dear -- oh and I sure hope you are returning SOON to the U.K. -- if you saw, we've added more lensmasters to the journal of the traveling squid and it should still be in the U.K. upon your return! ;)

Thanks Lewis. I have both....but admit...get myself confused as to what to do next. I am trying to develop my Web site into a marketing site using affiliate marketing. Find myself a little overwhelmed. I work outside of my home and am trying to develop my site on a part-time basis (as I have energy and time). Sometimes I find it hard to think of what to blog about, besides Squidoo. How do you fellow squids stay focused? Good job Lewis...Thanks.

This is an important subject. I have had both websites and blogs. Here are my experiences on the differences. I would love to see a discuss of the following points to see if others agree or disagree and why. Maybe I am missing something:

Blogs seem to get search traffic for a new subject much quicker than websites
Blogs require constant updating, both in order to maintain traffic and to not appear to be outdated.
Website generate more money from Google adsense than blogs.

Do other people have the same experiences?

Interesting distinction between blogs and websites. Some folks out there have suggested that one should start a blog regardless, because the tags and other features that are unique to blogs will get them spidered more frequently and you'll get more traffic.

NIce lens, 5*. And that computer screen covered in Post-It notes looks EXACTLY like mine :-)

Thanks Jim! I have a few other useful blogging articles here on squidoo. I'll link to them just above this box in a few minutes.
