Use an Infographic

Infographics are graphics which convey informations. They are visually appealing and often people are more likely to read them then an article. Using an infographic your blog is an effective way to share about slavery.

Here are some infographic which may be reposted on blogs. Credit is usually required, and sometimes notification, so make sure to read the text under each graphic to see what you need to do to use it. Also, please DO NOT REMOTE LINK, as this slows down the servers of the sites these graphics are from. Save to your own computer then upload to your blog.

Localize the Message

One of the most surprising things I learned in my research on modern slavery was how widespread it was. It's happens everywhere, even here in the US. If your blog caters to a local crowd, showing how human trafficking affects your region can be a powerful way to share about this issue. Sometimes you can find news articles about trafficking in your area simply by doing a google search with the terms "human trafficking" and your city or state name. Polaris Project also has a collection of resources organized by state (organizations, state laws, local news, etc.).

Another resource you can use is SlaveryMap.org. SlaveryMap shows incidents of human trafficking around the world. You can embed a map of an incident in your area by clicking on the incident (incidents are shown on the map with an orange box and an exclamation point) and grabbing the embed code listed there.

Just Speak From Your Heart

Sometimes the best way to share is just to use your own words. It takes a little more time and effort, but all those research papers you wrote in school and all the experience you've gotten writing your blog have prepared you for this. You have the whole internet at your disposal, and a google search on human trafficking (or whatever aspect of it that you plan to write on) will bring up more than enough information for you to use. You can't copy their wording, and you should cite the sources you get your facts from, but facts aren't copyrighted and it is ok to quote a sentence or two so long as you give credit. You don't need to be an expert to share what you've learned, and when you spread awareness you can make a real difference!

The mousepad pictured is something I created at Zazzle.com, where they sell mousepads and other products that can be customized with your own text or graphics. While there isn't a mousepad for sale there exactly like that, anyone could make one using their text customization.
