Yes, you can work at home as a blogger. You don't even have to know what a blog is. Here's a basic rundown.

Wait a minute...what is a blog? 

There is nothing mystical or mysterious about blogs. They are just another way for people to share information.

Though sometimes compared to a diary, a blog is far from that.

A blog can be:


  • A platform for a writer
  • A chronicle of a new life stage
  • A way to pay homage towards a hobby
  • A way for a company to enhance the customer service experience
  • Purely a way to make money.

Blog As a Business Or Not. It's Your Choice 

Not everyone is meant to be a business owner and that's fine. We all have different roles to fill. The great thing about blogging is that it can be as entrepreneurial as you want it to be.

You can either be a do-it-yourselfer and start your own blog or blogs. Or you can just focus on the writing aspect and blog for a company. Either way, with enough hard work, your bank account will thank you.

Starting Your Own Blog 

If you are a true entrepreneur then you'll probably want to start your own blog and make money via affiliate programs and advertising sales. It's not easy, nor is it immediately lucrative, but with time, dedication, and knowledge it can happen.

You'll Need:

  • A subject, preferable one that you are knowledgeable about
  • Basic web skills: i.e. - how to buy a domain name, how to pick web hosting, how to use blog software, how to use RSS
  • A marketing plan- who is going to read this blog and how am I going to get their attention? How am I going to constantly increase my traffic?
  • A monetization strategy- how am I going to make this profitable? What kind of ads am I going to put on here? How do I make them blend in? Is Adsense the best way to go, or are there better strategies?
  • Patience- This isn't going to make you wealthy overnight, despite what ebook selling "gurus" tell you. It takes time, patience, and smart planning
