Ideas for Lens Topics That You Didn't Know You Already Knew!
Now, isn't that just the most obvious concept you've ever heard of? Yeah, me too. I learned it from Seth Godin of all people. You know, the inventor of Squidoo, the Head Squid himself. It's a concept that's amazingly simple though, I'm guessing, often overlooked. Of course it makes me feel better to think I'm not the only one who hasn't been taking advantage of a resource, one I already own, to use as a topic for a lens.
Read on to learn more.
My Inspiration
All good ideas come from good places. The best ideas come from the best places.
Got it?
I was looking at the top 100 lenses in the Business category on Squidoo when I found Seth's lens. The title made me curious, so I took a look. The topic had nothing to do with blogging or making Squidoo lenses, but in his lens Seth linked to the blog post where he had written about the same topic. Suddenly, I had a huge light bulb moment, actually more like a a "Duh!" moment. Surely I had a blog post that could be expanded into a lens, didn't I?
Of course, wanting to share this revelation with my own Squidoo blog readers, I blogged about what I had just discovered. Then, I figured I ought to practice what I preached, so here I am.
Now it's your turn. Choose a blog post, one you really like, one you can expand on. Make a related lens, expounding on your topic, and link the two together. Once you're satisfied with the result, tell the world!
Now, if you don't have a blog, that's easy enough to fix. I use blogger.com for my blogs because I find it very simple to set up and maintain, so that might be the best place for you to start, too. Of course if you're a blogger who's not a Squidoo lensmaster yet, then of course you need to get started on Squidoo and we can take care of that right away, quickly, right here, right now.
So, what are you waiting for?

- Thanks for sharing your duh moment. I had a similar thought today. I was looking at a friend's blog about their travels and they had all this rich text and pictures and I thought, wow, I should ask them if I can get their permission to re-publish all this great material onto a lens. Then I thought, duh, why not publish some travel lenses inspired by my own blog rather than someone else's. Doi? So I think the same can be said about snippets of Tweeets or Facebook posts. They are kind of like instant draft versions of lenses. So thanks for sharing your thoughts....I so hear ya.

- Turning a blog post into a lens is a great idea! And at least you did something about your idea; some of us think them up and don't follow through. :)

- I've been blogging since the start of 2005 and there is a ton of stuff there I could make lenses about. However, I am TRYING now to focus on the lenses that are about my music and art and my blog is personal, not biz-related. I'm featuring this on my fan-club thank-you lens so - thank you!

- Susan -- yep, sometimes the coolest ideas are right under our very noses! My first blog post was in December 2004 -- it was rather my awakening about blogging being a good thing! Wow, look all that has happened since that time. ;)

- I write (when I have time) on Associated Content too so I kind of already got the idea; I am thinking of using the blog post I wrote today as a Squidoo lens and also an article; I could actually write a few articles about it and use them to get traffic to my lens. I'm not too sure where to start but I'll get around to it very soon I hope!
