Connecting People Through Blogging
This lens is all about just what the title says: The Blogging Community. It's about the sense of discovery, inclusion and connection in the blogging world. Here we can share ideas about sharing ideas.
Blogging: Before Social Networking Was Cool
Since I first started blogging on FreshBlogger in 2006 and created this lens sometime after that, social networking on the web has gone crazy. I don't think anybody really predicted just how huge all of this would become. Maybe we should have known that the internet, and now social sites, are filling a need that people in the Western World especially have been missing out on for a long time.
This is that sense of belonging, that feeling of being a part of a community. It seems like life is so impersonal these days in so many ways. People rub shoulders with so many other people and get deluged with information from any number of sources in the world around us, that we easily get lost. It's hard to build connections when so much in the media is a million miles away and the people you do meet in life are so often just passers-by with no time to forge a real bond.
Blogging has been a way for people to connect. It's been a great way to share ideas and thoughts and feelings on any subject you could imagine. It was the precursor to social networking or Web 2.0. Many people have gravitated toward social networking because it requires less effort than blogging. Sound bites of only a few words are just fine while most blogs need a little more meat. Despite all of the competition, the blogging community of the world is going stronger than ever now.

- Hi Whiteskyline - Welcome to the blogging community! I think blogging will ultimately have more staying power than twitter, etc. Thanks for commenting!

- Interestin, I haven't followed much of it. I see you have for awhile, so I trust you here.
I do have a good feeling about blogging. At present I have lots of blogs that I just fired off. I suspect eventually I will start my own authority type.
There are so many amazing blogs and ideas, it can make your head spin. I have just sort of blindly thrown myself in head first, yet I know how I learn, and one day it will all click :)

- That's awesome. It does take some time to learn your way around blogging. Lot's of people go nuts with it and try to post 5 times a day on each of their blogs and burn out really fast. It's cool to have different blogs for your different interests and different audiences. You'll pick it up as you go along, meet some really cool people, and make a few bucks along the way.

- That's the goal :) Like this for instance, I enjoy this type of interchange. Meeting someone cool, sharing ideas etc. Kind of awesome actually.
Yeah I can see that happening to people.
And yes, I may find a way to categorize all my interests in one place, for now this is a tad easier :) My attention span enjoys it this way.
