Earning Money Blogging

Ranked #47,049 in Business & Work, #575,246 overall

First, to earn money blogging you have two options, 1-work for someone else or 2-work for yourself.  These aren't always either/or choices as some, including me, do both.  I've compiled a small article here that I hope will help you earn money blogging.

Work For Someone Else:

There are dozens of blog networks and even more PR firms that are hiring bloggers. Having been a network blogger since mid-2005, I'll share with you the blog networks that I can personally recommend and their payment model. Due to NDAs and respect for these companies I'll not disclose exact amounts.

My Blog Networks

I still write for some of these, others I have written for at one time. I would recommend highly any of these networks.
b5 Media
b5 Media pays its bloggers by revenue share.
AllBusiness
Allbusiness pays its bloggers by revenue share.
Know More Media
Know More Media pays its bloggers per post or by an alternative method for business owners. You'll have to contact them to learn more about this program.
Creative Weblogging
Creative Weblogging pays its bloggers by revenue share.
Best of the Web
Best of the Web pays per post.

Other networks

Of course, as I said, there are dozens more blog networks that I hold in high esteem, Gawker and Weblogs, Inc. among them.

Work For Yourself:

Another way to make money blogging is to own your own site and monetize it well.

*You can monetize it by drawing attention to an existing product. Corporate blogs, PR blogs and author blogs are examples of this type of blog. The bloggers draw search engine and direct traffic to their main product by writing compelling content. Many PR bloggers use this to attract attention to their services.

**And, just as common, you can monetize your blog by advertising on it. The ads can be contextual (like Adsense) or they can be static (not dependant upon the words on your site). Affiliate ads like those found from Amazon are examples of static ads, as are site based ads.

It's really up to you

Regardless of how you monetize your site, be sure to put your readers first. Don't be tempted to write or promote in a way that you can't be proud of at the end of the day. Being transparent with your readers is a great way to EARN their trust.

For more information on monetizing your blog with affiliate advertising or contextual advertising, visit Practical Blogging and ask for a site optimization review.
