The Good, The Bad & The Ugly...
If you've been an active blogger, you wouldn't have missed the news on BlogRush launch. There are literally thousands of reviews written and a great majority of them gave it the thumbs up, for an obvious but questionable reason...
Is BlogRush really something to rave about? Does it delivers what it promises? If you're new to it or still sitting on the fence about installing this website "widget", this lens has all the information gathered in one place.
The Good, the Bad & the Ugly is what I like to give the theme of this BlogRush lens. Yes, it's scattered with my referral links to BlogRush signup but that doesn't mean I must be bias. Afterall, it's just another blogging tool which I'm testing, and since I'm working at it, why not share my research here - so you don't have to ;)

Quick Summary for Beginners
If you blog often and like the idea of having the title of your latest blog post showing up in another related blog for free, BlogRush is a new service you can consider adding to your blog(s).
BlogRush works like a traffic exchange network although you are trading impressions rather than clicks. You earn impression (display) credits for showing someone else's post titles in a "widget" (see picture), in turn you get to spend the credits by having your post title displayed elsewhere; thus giving more exposures to your blog.
It takes you only a minute to sign up and install the BlogRush widget on your blog. The system takes care of all the tracking and distribution of credits.
There's more to this.
BlogRush leverages on the power of referral to help you earn more credits. If a visitor signs up for BlogRush from your widget (via the bottom link that says "Add Your Post Here - FREE") you'll get a percentage of the credits earn by this new member too.
Watch the short video presentation below to get a better idea on how all these fit together. Getting free & targeted blog traffic can be this easy!

BlogRush Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
Stuffs that people asked most about BlogRush...
Since I've been surfing around quite a bit for BlogRish information, I thought consolidating my findings here will help someone - so now you can get it all from one place!
If I've missed any useful bits or you've a question not found here, just add to this list!
How to add BlogRush to Blogger or BlogSpot.com Blog?
Under the "Template" tab of your blogspot.com control panel, you can easily "Add a Page Element". This will provide you various elements to select from, in this case choose the "HTML/Javascript" element and paste the BlogRush codes into the content space provided. Re-position the element to your preference and make sure you have a call-to-action in your title to encourage others to sign-up for BlogRush too ;) View the video for step-by-step instructions.0 points
Why can't I get the widget to display in my blog at Wordpress.com?
Currently, it can't be done in blogs hosted in wordpress.com. It has to do with some restrictions Wordpress.com put in place on 3rd-party javascript. The javascript provided by BlogRush is not executed even if you've added it successfully to your Wordpress.com blog template or sidebar widget. I'm sure there'll be a work-around sooner or later from BlogRush.0 points
How to add BlogRush to a Wordpress Blog?
With the newer "widgetized" themes, adding BlogRush widget to a Wordpress blog is as easy as adding a new widget under the "Presentation" menu (similar to blogger.com). However, older version of wordpress and/or themes may not be as straight forward and therefore a little show-n-tell in the video tutorial below may help.0 points
Any work-around for Wordpress.com Blogs?
Since BlogRush widget won't display in blogs hosted in wordpress.com. One suggestion is to simply list and promote the BlogRush sign-up URL (e.g. http://www.blogrush.com/r94943816) directly to your readers on the sidebar or in individual post.
You'll still earn credit from the multi-level credit system AND still have your Wordpress.com's blog posts sydicated! Yes, your wordpress.com blog Feed URL(s) can be use in BlogRush even if you do not display the BlogRush widget on the same blog.0 points
Can I add BlogRush widget to ANY website?
Yes. The BlogRush widget should display in any web pages, even if it's not a "blog". This is similar to adding the Adsense javascript code anywhere on your web page(s). Just paste the given BlogRush javascript into any section of your web page and with some trial-and-error you'll be able to adjust the placement to your preference. This applies to all other blogging platform not mentioned here (as long as they don't block 3rd-party javascript)0 points
What is a "Feed URL" and how to locate it?
This URL is required to tell BlogRush where to pull your latest blog's post entries for sydication (sharing).
To get this Feed URL, one way is to look out for a link that reads "RSS Entries" (or similar, e.g. Feeds, XML, Atom, etc.) displayed on your blog; on the side bar or footer. Just click on that link and copy the final URL where it lands. That's the "Feed URL" you should copy and paste into BlogRush.

BlogRush Tips & Tricks
How to get the most out of BlogRush?
While BlogRush is yet to be in its maximum potential in terms of features, customization allowance and reporting, there are many things you can do or "optimize" now to be ready for what it'll bring later. One of which is to sign up for it as soon as possible, even if you're skeptic on how it will/can bring you targeted traffic.
Power is on leverage, so sign up early!
Other than earning syndication credits from your visitors clicking on posts displayed in the BlogRush widget, another major earning potential is from referring this service to other bloggers.
The more referrals you get to sign-up for BlogRush, the more credits you can earn as a percentage of your referrals, 10 levels down.
Promote it especially when you already have a big readership - analyse the cost & benefit later - take this as a trial. Any risk?0 points
Place the widget in a prominent area
The idea of "sending your visitors away" with such a widget may not sound inviting initially. However, if you adopt an investment mindset now, you may get more traffic back from the system, especially from the multi-level referral award system in place. Trade some clicks away for potential viral traffic - your loyal readers will still come back to you anyway ;) Oh, you can always remove the widget or move it down the page later when every blogger in the world has already sign-up for BlogRush...0 points
Re-distribute your blog traffic/syndication credits
You can add serveral blogs to one BlogRush account.
This helps in managing credits as a pool. With it, you can potentially earn credits from your heavily trafficked blogs and spend it on your other blogs that need "targeted" traffic.
The enterprising lots may be think of trading "expensive" traffic for "cheaper" ones... get my drift? Arbitrage anyone? ;)
As example can be found here:
http://blogrush-ads.blogspot.com/0 points
Have a "BlogRush-Only" Blog...
Notice only the first 40 characters of the title get displayed in the widget? Think about how you can write "Call for Action" copy in your post's title and fit them in that space.
Now, I know this doesn't sound "natural" for your normal post. You're writing a blog post and not Pay-per-click ad.
How about this: Create another blog solely to RECEIVE traffics from BlogRush, then have all the posts there written for the purpose of attracting clicks?
Tip only possible from a PPC marketer ;)0 points
The Downside to BlogRush?
Nothing is perfect but it has to be somday ;)
I've read some ramblings on the net why BlogRush may not work, yada yada. So I thought I'll consolidate all those concerns here and see what readers here got to say. Feel free to add on to this list!
Isn't BlogRush like a "Get Paid To Surf" program?
I used to join these; remember NetBux.org anyone? Oh boy was I one of the BIG credit earner years ago ;)
The fact that credits are earned only when someone clicks on the links in the widget means there'll be motivation for "click fraud".
I'll be watching to see how ingenuis these pranksters will get. Such battles against click frauds are something BlogRush will have to handle for sure.0 points
MLM and its negativity
For the record, I have extensive MLM (network marketing) background ;) My very first website at http://www.hanschee.com was dedicated to that subject, but I'm digressing.
Suffice to say that when I read about BlogRush's Multi-level "compensation plan", I knew for sure what kind of members it'll attract.
Anyway, I'll expect the usual rejections, alienation and skeptic responses to it. Questions like "saturation" of the referral network (to-date there are 70 million blogs) will come.0 points
10-levels of referral compensation - Stacking problem?
With such compensation plan without any cost for signing up, I'm wondering what will stop "MLM" opportunist from getting multiple BlogRush accounts. This is how most networkers abuse the compensation plan and try to maximize it.
For example, there's no stopping some over jealous individual creating 10 user accounts, one referral the other, 10 levels deep isn't it? What are the consequence of that?
Think about it.0 points
It's based on impressions and not clicks
Credits are earned from each impression (display) of the widget, not a clicks-thru.
Counting impressions is unfair. A busy blog displaying the widget at the footer which don't bring much click-thrus will still earn thousands of credits (IMPRESSIONS).
How would this benefit an average blogger who displays it prominently? This sends away clicking visitors, but wasting hard-earned credits on the "low quality impressions" like the above.
Not counting spammy sites that'll exploit it yet.0 points
Only the "BIG guys" will benefit from BlogRush
This is about "The rich getting richer%u2026" mindset, a very common opinion read in many commenters to BlogRush reviews. The thinking is that since the heavy hitters will earn TONS of credits from giving impressions AND gaining referrals, most widgets will be flooded with their posts then! How true is this, we'll have to see how BlogRush response.0 points
Will BlogRush break Google's TOS?
There are some comments about "Adsense banning accounts that are involve in traffic exchange programs". Will this be a concern for users?
BlogRush is definitely classified under some kind of co-op ad network. So it'll be interesting to know what google will say about it.0 points
Where's the Incentive for sending visitors away?
By placing the widget on our blog, the concern here is that other than the potential of gaining referrer sign-ups (and earning referral/leveraged credits), any other benefit is unfound or at least need clarity.
If blogrush system works on an "impression" system for earning credits (instead of a "click-thru" system), then there's no incentive for the blog owner to send their visitors away via the widget - We still earn the same amount of credits whether our readers click or not. Right?0 points
"Gaming" the BlogRush system
Already there are valid concerns how people can trick the system (which runs on impressions) by sending large amount of random traffic. Will the system be smart enough to distinguish real human traffic from artificially generated ones like "auto-surf" programs? This will be interesting to find out.0 points
Loosing credibiilty with spammy links?
It may be too early to tell if this is any cause for concern. The company mentioned openly that they will deploy both human and machine methods to fight spams. Therefore chances of loosing credibility in our blog if the widget displays spammy sites are slim, perhaps?0 points
Wish-List for BlogRush
If you've been a user for even a second, you'll have an opinion here:
What are some of the nice-to-have features you like to see? What about "features" or bugs that irks you, and like to see it improved? Add them to this list or make a vote below!
Appearance customization
I believe this will top the list for sometime until the new version is release. Who don't want to have control over how wide or narrow, and the color theme of such a widget if it's to occupy a good area of the blog? Nuff said.0 points
Traffic Targeting
BlogRush uses a "category" system to classify a blog's entries (during sign-up or new blog addition). I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it since categories are SO VERY broad, how "targeted" can we get? I'm just surprise it's not using a "tagging" system in today's web 2.0 era. All things (and posts) should be classified (tagged) in multi-dimension way.0 points
Rules of widget placement needed
The click-thru-rate of blogrush as gathered from the feedback is dismay. One may factor could be that most users place it in obscure section of the blog. To to fair to all users, it should require bloggers to place Blog Rush somewhere at the top of their blog layouts or at least set some rules to make it fair for all.0 points
Ability to change the Feed URL
BlogRush lets you edit everything about your blog except for the feed address. This is a little crazy as many blogs change their feeds over time (changing to Feedburner, etc). Hopefully they fix this.0 points

More details on how BlogRush works
Below is an excerpt from John Reese, BlogRush creator.
This is a screenshot of what the BlogRush "widget" looks like. Each time a page loads with this widget, the widget will refresh with 5 blog post titles (along with the name of the blog or author; the user's choice) and a link to the full post and blog. Links open in a new window so it doesn't take a visitor away from the original blog showing the widget. These blog links will be from related blogs across the BlogRush Network. Each blog in our network gets set to a specific category that defines its content. We're combining this with proprietary technology that we are developing to help serve relevant posts.
These additional links offer great value to a blog visitor, but the real power of the service is how it helps blogs generate more traffic.
Each time the widget gets loaded on any page of someone's blog, they'll have one of their latest blog post titles and a link served inside the widget on another related blog. But it goes wayyy beyond that.
See the "Add Your Blog Posts - FREE" area at the bottom of the widget? And the BlogRush tab? Well, if anyone clicks on either of those areas they will be taken to the BlogRush web site where they can learn about the free service and start hosting the widget on their site. BUT that's not free advertising for BlogRush. Those links serve a powerful purpose.
When someone joins BlogRush, our system knows exactly WHERE they came from. The originating blog gets permanently marked in our system as the "referrer" for that new blog. And as you may have already guessed, the original blog now earns additional "syndication credit" on all the traffic that the referring blog produces - every single day. But it doesn't stop there. If that new blog refers another user, that original blog then earns credits based on THAT new user as well. It continues through 10 "generations" of referrals with no limit to the number of blogs and/or traffic that can be produced by any level.
This 'process' provides incredible LEVERAGE. You can have a blog that gets just 1 visitor a week, but if that next visitor happens to be someone with a blog that gets 25,000 visits a day, and they click your widget and sign up, you'll start having your blog posts promoted over 25,000 TIMES A DAY. And that doesn't even count all the potential "viral growth" that can then occur from that blog referring other blogs. It's very, very powerful.
...
There's a lot more to BlogRush. for example, you can setup keyword filters if you never want certain blog post titles to be displayed inside the widget on your blog, for example, that ever mention "iPhone." Or you can add a filter to completely block an entire's blog from ever having its post titles shown inside your widget.
You can also add multiple blogs to your BlogRush account and decide how you want to use your "syndication credits." You can use them all on one of your blogs, or split them up equally. It's up to you.

Adding BlogRush To A Website Without RSS
This is in response to erixonline's comment below
Create a plain text file with the above and name the filename something.rss (doesn't really matter) and upload it to your server.
Example: (Edit all the blue text)

Then, in the blogrush settings, add the RSS Feeds as http://www.yourwebsite.com/something.rss
That's it! This is only a work around and can be extra work. However it gives you control over what is shown and linked on blogrush.
How does the BlogRush credit system works?
Summary of the syndication credit system formula
Some illustration are found in the BlogRush video and here are the details:Direct Credits:
By placing a widget on your site, you earn a 1:1 ratio of syndication credits on the exposure your generate, meaning that each time the widget loads on a page view on your site, you get 1 credit.
Referral Credits:
This goes down 10 generation level, but at different level you may earn a different credit ratio on the traffic it brings.
See table below.
How does the math all adds up?
Each widget displays 5 related titles from the blogrush member network. (Note: these need not be taken from your referral's blogs)
As an example in the table, when a user generates 8 impressions, a total of 40 or (8x5) titles are being displayed in the widgets of related blogs somewhere.
This means that blogrush has advertising space for 40 blog entries, and thus 40 syndication credits can be rewarded to users in the 10 level referral up-line.
Say this is your referral at the 10th level. Following the table illustration, this user will earn 8 credits for making 8 impressions (Direct Credit), then the first up-line (at 9th level) will also earn 8 credits, and the next in line will earn 8 credits, then 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1 and finally up to YOU (1 credit for You).
Table of illustration for BlogRush credit system
For those who really want to know...

The sum of the distributed (awarded) credits in this case is 36. The balance 4 credits (or 10% of 40) are left-over for the company, BlogRush.
They can sell these 10% space for profit or give them out as bonuses. Well, actually the company will get more than 10% if your consider that most "heavy hitters" will probably sign up at the first levels of the network, meaning that there's no body above them. Therefore, all these get into the company's pool (which is nice given out as bonuses ;).
Most reviewers say there are a LOT more benefits for the company than just selling these left-over ad space. What do you think?
Will I get a LOT of traffic given this?
I'm not so sure about getting "traffic" (click-thru) but if you have a few good referrals under your network, they can indirectly help you to earn tons of "impressions" (exposures) for sure!
If you consider the matrix again, it tells you that the first 3 levels of referrals will help yield 100% of the credits they earn! (e.g. everyone in the 3 levels above gets 8 credits each, the same amount as the user him/herself!).
That's why if you are going for referral credits, it's better to go broad (breath) than depth. And certainly it's better to get referrals with very busy blogs for those 3 levels - again, you earn the SAME amount of credit as they do!
If you're interested in improving your click-thru rate and have more control over which of your posts get syndicated & for how long, visit this blogrush dedicated blog.
The Numbers Don't Lie!
How effective is BlogRush really? Is it over-rated?
10% for sure.
- How much traffic (clicks) can one really expect?
- Does the referral network brings in more credits? How much more?

Here's mine to start the ball rolling...
Referral Levels = 1 only!
CTR = 300:1 (1 click for every 300 impressions)
Earned Credits Ratio = About 10:6 (Direct credits:Referral Credits)0 points

What has been your experiences with BlogRush?
I hope you've found this lens to be helpful in some way.
Driving traffic from blog communities has been one of my recent past-time activities. Having success with similar community networks like MyBlogLog, I'm interested to find out first-hand how BlogRush can add on to that venture. What about you?
While I'm an internet marketing (of some sort), I'm pretty new to lens making and social networking. Squidoo is a service I've heard being raved about a lot but it's only recently that I got hooked, starting with this one.
If you have any feedback about this BlogRush lens, post'em below too.

If you are good at creating lens, what do you think I should do here so that people will add it as a favourite? In any case, do consider rolling it or better still, bless it if it already make the mark.
Thank You!!!
